Trail Reports

2019-2020 season
Reports 7 to 16 of 16    Month: Feb | Jan

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed Wednesday. Tracks were clean, deep, and firm. I post-holed a few times on the outside, but it was really minor. Tracks were washed out in the usual places, on the Minx trail behind the shelter and on the big hill coming into the campground. Otherwise, very good grooming, fast snow, but still controllable on the big hills. Saw what I think was a Great Grey Owl. Great fun!

Grooming was just finishing up around 11am with track set and nice corduroy. Temps were still in the low 20's at that point so it was an excellent ski with good kick and glide using blue kick wax. Skate track in campground is excellent. Going back soon for a few more laps.

No grooming since last Monday. Two 2" snowfalls since then and temps around 32. Skier made tracks were not bad. Blue kick wax got me through without too much slipping. Partner did ok on waxless skis as well. They say they'll groom on Monday.

Groomer out around 1pm and groomed areas -- excellent. A little grass poking through on Pleasure Valley outside track, but rest very good with only minor leaf litter. Getting a little soft in spots by early afternoon.

Freshly groomed and tracked. We skied Ridgeview, Walnut Hollow and Pleasure Valley. Conditions were great.

Pretty good. Super fast snow. The trails were getting a little bit beat up from use and a few inconsiderate pedestrians. But overall, definitely worth it. Campground was groomed for both classic and skating.

All trails had been groomed and tracked after the recent snow. Conditions were much better than they were when I skied them last Thursday. The parking lot was full of cars and the trails were showing the signs of heavy use. Track speed was medium. The downhills were fast. Control on the downhills was fair to good. I still managed to fall more than once. It would be nice if the hikers stayed off the groomed trails like they are supposed to.

Trails groomed and track set this afternoon. Thanks grooming team! A bit soft and slow. Campground skate deck only partially groomed when I passed it. Looked soft. Not many leaves nor sticks in the track. 4-7" base.

The trail report recording indicated the trails had been rolled but not tracked so I thought the trails might be suitable for skating. However, the trail was very uneven and quite rough. Skating did not work because of that so I tried classic skiing. That worked better but I would rate conditions as poor to fair. There was no track and the surface was uneven. I walked down all the hills as control was not good because of the rough surface. I skied the entire system. It took much longer than normal but it was good to get out.

Surprisingly good conditions for only 4-6 inches of snow over a frozen base. Cold temps, and a rolling of the trails made for complete coverage and fast glide. No tracks set as the snow isn't deep enough.
