Firsthand: Classic

Excellent conditions, great job of grooming. Only a couple of spots where set track was a bit soft. Should be even better after setting up in cold temps. Used my Fischer Twin Skins - good grip and good glide with no grabbing.

New 6+" of snow made for great classic skiing in skier-made tracks. No groomed trails and nothing available for skaters yet.

Freshly groomed today. A little soft, but good coverage. Full depth tracks throughout, only a couple of minor thin spots. Pretty good!

Skied the red loop today, classic. Snow cover was good. Trails were not groomed or tracked, so progress was slow. There were lots of chunks and footprints from hikers, but the snow was still soft so it was easy enough to ski through the crud. I brought my good skis with no issues, but would bring an older and wider pair next time until/unless it gets groomed.

None of the trails were groomed, though I hope that will change this week. Only skier-made tracks. In some areas the snow was deep and lovely, in others it was thin and icy. From the trailhead continuing down towards Mound Park Road is awful. There is enough snow in a narrow middle section of the trail, but on both sides is either bare ground or pure ice. On the downhill going into the campground, there is a tree you need to duck under. On the steep, narrow downhill leading out of the campground (veering to the left), there is a lot of debris and some bare ground at the very bottom. I recommend side slipping/stepping it. Pleasure Valley Trail (the orange loop) was mostly fine, though a bit thin under the pines.

New snow on top of the heavy dump we got on Wed along with temps in the 20s created a reasonably good surface. Trails tracked by skiers, no grooming yet. Numerous wet spots that generally can be avoided.

Racing spandex crowd will be challenged, wool sweater crowd will love it. Trails not groomed. Few bare spots you can avoid. Twigs and open areas. Beautiful.
