2019-2020 season

Afternoon

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Very nice on the manmade snow loops. Temps just above freezing have softened the surface coating of granular snow, while the glacier base has kept it from getting too soft. There are tracks, but they are worn and glazed. Get out there early tomorrow!

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Classic skied the lighted loop. There was an extra set of fresh tracks that were in good condition on the snowmaking portion. On the natural snow sections the track was pretty glazed. A few erosion bars were peeking out on the second uphill that were easy to avoid. Downhills were fast with very minimal rutting and enough loose snow on top to maintain control.

Skated both the lighted loop and the upper loop this morning. The lighted loop off the man-made section was much improved over Wednesday morning. To my surprise, much of the upper loop had received a pass or two with the groomer as well. There remains a couple of sections with the upper loop where caution is needed due to ice in low-lying sections.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Good morning skiers, the man made loops were tilled this morning by the lmc. The dnr will be out later this morning to set tracks. The skate deck is reported to be in excellent condition. It will be a little soft and slow but it will improve with skier traffic.

Skated the lighted loop early Wednesday morning. Arrived to tilling of the man-made loop in progress, which will have new tracks set sometime this morning. The rest of the lighted loop had been freshly groomed with a thin layer of loose snow on top of a firm base. I used my good skis, but needed to be careful passing over erosion barriers at the top of two-tier. Good control on the downhills and enough loose snow so that I was not skating on my edges. The upper loop appeared not to be groomed, as the Gator used for grooming that loop is still in the shop. The freshly tilled man-made loop is as good as it gets.

Classic skied (mostly double poled) the green loop. Tracks were 90% washed out, uneven, and ice covered.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied the upper trails, which had not been groomed since Saturday night. The trails were hard-packed and uneven, with some downhills bordering on being unsafe. Groomer broke down while grooming Monday morning. Backup groomer does not have the pulling power, so only the lighted loop will be groomed this week, or until the primary groomer is repaired.

Groomed last night and tracks were re-set. Hard packed, uneven trails, and slippery. Not much loose powder to get an edge.

[ Good skis ]
New, wet snow, probably 2 inches since grooming Friday night. So slow, physical, extremely beautiful. Tracks set but slow. A good deal of branches and twigs game down due to the wet snow. Please spend some time flicking or picking unless you're doing intensity. If everybody pitches in, we can get the trail clear.

Report from a novice: 9am ski while snowing. Lower green loop was easier for me as I could climb the hills and come down slower on magic carpet. Not too sticky either.
