Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Mora got about 2" of light snow over the past 24 hours. I was pleasantly surprised to see the skating deck had been packed across most of the trails by the time I got there around 10am. Snow conditions were quite good considering the unseasonably warm weather and rain in recent days. I didn't come across any bare patches or even dirty snow. In total, I was able to get in 13K with very limited duplication. Roger's Ridge is open and adds a nice spur of elevation for intermediate/advanced skiers. Give it a try. As always, thanks to the volunteer crew who maintains these trails in phenomenal shape.

Surprised to find 1/4 inch of new snow over transformed base. Groomers had put down fresh cord. Minimal oak leaves in tracks made for a pleasant classic ski. Adequate coverage. One icy section. Well worth the trip.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The great skiing conditions skiers enjoyed over the weekend continued Monday on the 13km of trails. All segments are open including the Western Oaks and Roger's Ridge trail. The only connecting segment not yet groomed is the pond crossing just west of the Vasa Hills towards Amy's Alley and the Bowling Alley Tracks are set throughout although classic skiers will notice those pesky oak leaves scattered about.

Trails wonderful. Deep classic tracks. Some leaves in tracks, but didn't really bother us too much, except in a couple spots where we scooted by in skate lane. Good to see lots of students out skiing.

Trails were in outstanding shape. Firm corduroy skate lane with deep, iced rock hard classic tracks. The groomer did an outstanding job on Friday night. Great to have use of the building and wax room. Local skiers were very welcoming to a group of 80 Maple Grove High School skiers! Thanks!

[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Recent heavy snowfall in Mora on Monday really helped the trails. The freshly groomed and tracked trails provided a hard skate deck and deep classic tracks. 10km of trails. Snowmaking is underway and creating big pile of snow that will soon be hauled onto the trails. Skiing this afternoon and evening was great although a bit cold.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Vasaloppet volunteers Sunday afternoon groomed about 10km of Vasaloppet ski trails at the Nordic Center. Most areas were reported to be very good to excellent with the exception of a short section of wetland just south of the Vasa Hills on the northeast section due to water issues and several short sections that remain a bit rough due to earlier trip work or have thin snow due to strong winds. Classic tracks are set, but not everywhere. The large pond on the north end is not yet safe for equipment so all trails segments are not at this time totally connected.

Secondhand
[ Trails Open: Partial ]
The entire Nordic Center trail system was groomed on Saturday afternoon. A short section of trail crossing a wetland just south of the Vasa Hills and the Berm just north of the Nordic Center were not done because of wet conditions and high water. "Enough snow to make a good base for now and snow was wet enough to hold most grass down so just a couple more inches can make a good trail at this point," volunteer groomer Don Olson reported on Saturday.
Grooming is tentatively planned for Sunday afternoon depending on when snow and winds subside. With the amount of snow overnight on Saturday skiing conditions should be good once that grooming is completed.
High water levels in the wetland due north of the Nordic Center has flooded the ski trail just north of the Nordic Center and before entering the woods. Ice thickness is not deemed safe enough for grooming equipment, which has for now cut-off direct access to the rest of trail system. The trails can be accessed heading west of the Nordic Center along the bike trail, but snow there is thin due to high winds blowing most of the snow away. Snowmaking efforts will also resume once cold weather returns.

Secondhand
[ Trails Open: Partial ]
Report as of 9pm Wed. night from volunteer Peter Larson: About 1km done right now, working out some equipment issues and swamp water, hoping to have more done tonight. Update: won't get more grooming done until Friday at the earliest. More snow coming, hoping to have it ready to rip by Sunday afternoon! Short .5km loop around Nordic Center has manufactured snow base.
