Apparently rain, gale force winds and freezing drizzle are no match for our City of Duluth Grooming Crew. Skiing was perfect at Piedmont this afternoon. Deep set tracks that were almost completely intact and the previously reported flooded areas are no longer an issue. The groomers have shoveled snow from the sides of the trail, completely covering the flooded areas. I know I speak on behalf of all of the snow lovers here in Duluth, thank you Grooming Crew for always going above and beyond!

Well, great ski actually dispite two iced over flood locations at lowest elevations. Must bushwack around the one. There was also small pieces of wood twigs and a few leaves here and there in the tracks - probably not best to ski your best skis on this one till we get more snow.

23°F. I did a few laps on the skating loop. It was recently groomed and firm. There is one spot where quite a bit of water pooled on the trail and is frozen solid.

16F, overcast, some sun, no wind. Groomed yesterday afternoon. Super solid track, really fast. Only a few places with twigs and leaves under yesterday’s dusting of snow. There are a few spots where the groomer broke through into deep water. Now it’s all frozen so no worries about going for a swim. The long downhill on the black loop I walked down, but it’s totally skiable - track is solid and deep the whole way down and back up again.

Great conditions- perfect track, nicely set up. Clean corduroy for skating and great track for classic. Perfect place for a sunset ski.

Fantastic conditions at Piedmont. Great tracks holding up really well to the traffic. Skied the main loop but skipped the black diamond side loop. V60 provided great grip in the warm conditions (was really hoping to avoid klister). Get out an enjoy it.

I was out today midday and the trails were very well used. All of the parts that were skate or transitions where there were no tracks were very concrete like. The tracks were ok, but lots of leaf and other natural debris throughout. Whatever was driven over the trails left pretty big ruts so it is almost impossible to safely take one ski out of the track and slow yourself down with a snowplow on the downhills. Unless this is your backyard, I'd ski elsewhere until it is groomed.

-100F. Just kidding. It was a balmy -6F, partly sunny, no wind. Tracks and skate deck are in great shape, or were before we started working... Emily Ford and I were pruning back alder, willow and red osier dogwood from the classic tracks while Billy and Ben with the City of Duluth put up the great signage. Billy said he's going to groom tomorrow morning, so no whining about twigs in the classic tracks! We got about 1/2 of the trail system cleared.

16F, sunny. The trail is in good shape. The classic tracks are in excellent condition, hadn't been groomed since the dusting of snow Monday morning. Some of the sides are still soft where the track is right up against the woods. Especially true on the section where skating is allowed. I hope to get out later this week to prune back the woody shrubs and alder that are face-wackers.

Nearly perfect mid-winter trail conditions, freshly groomed this morning. Watch out for the alder branches over the trail, many places we had to step out of the track to avoid getting whacked.
