We skied Piedmont today and there was no hint of dirt or grass coming through, plenty of snow! There was some water flowing in two spots but only on one side so it wasn't an issue. The only place we had to detour through the woods was at the end of the trail where you either go back the way you came or left to go to the parking lot. It was a short like three ski lengths detour. No ski tracks but plenty of bear tracks! This snow isn't going anywhere anytime soon!

30F. Overcast. The tracks are still in really good shape. It's fer sher klister conditions, transformed, abrasive snow. My skin skis worked great. As I started there were some bloody-faces skiers finishing. It's very fast and unforgiving if you fall (abrasive snow). Snowplowing took some finesse but is doable if you pay attention.

Piedmont was amazing! Huge thank you to the groomers! Tracks were solid and firm, 99% in tact. Skate deck and middle was a bit firm and softening as we were out. Debris in maybe 5% of the tracks and much of it was down far enough that it did not interfere. The first long gradual downhill, (maybe called EZ rider, I'm not great with the names) had issues in the right track, stay left. Something must have fallen or someone. The last downhill on the main loop also has issues in the right track because of a tree they had to cut up. The snow in the woods is magical with the ice that fell from the trees! Very well worth a ski or three!

Freshly groomed with the PB groomer today. Great classic skiing with skins. It looks like the groomers had to remove several trees that fell over the trail with chain saws. I don't think I have ever skied on such nicely groomed trails in April. There is still a 3 foot base on the trails. Thank you Duluth grooming crew for your hard work. It is much appreciated!

We skied Piedmont this morning and huge thank you to whoever skied the track in for us! One side is skied in all the way around, the other track was partially skied in when we were there. Tracks are in pretty good shape, well formed, pole plants solid. The snow that is there is kinda a light crust over soft fluffy stuff. Definitely not as fast as yesterday. Skating would be frustrating today I think because of the crust. Could also be a good workout!

The trails are in good shape. The track is a bit icy. Klister worked well, and others were doing well on skins and fishscales. Thank you groomers!

Piedmont was like mid winter again! Rock solid tracks, intact, fast but not icy... just super duper fun! In between tracks like when one ended and the other started it was like slippery concrete and the uphills were a bit firm with little to no edge. We are not even close to spring skiing! To me, true spring skiing is when you start talking about "connectedness" and you have the fun "mature" snow as George used to say!

Freshly groomed today. It was sunny and 26F with bright sun and blue skies when I started skiing. I hit the sweet spot with my skin skis as I had the best grip and glide of the year on a perfectly groomed track. Piedmont is a fairly short trail but keeps its snow late into the season and has great flow as well as a few exciting hills to keep things interesting. Thank you Duluth groomers for providing us with a freshly groomed trail every day this week.

Appeared to be freshly groomed just hours before I arrived in the early afternoon. Clean, solid, deep tracks and nearly untouched corduroy between. Glide on the downhills was fast enough that I ran a couple with one ski out of the track. Grip with special violet was a bit lacking on a few of the south-facing uphills in the sun. Otherwise, a nearly perfect spring ski. City of Duluth continues to do an amazing job this year. Mucho thanks.

When we arrived at 11:30 am, a gentleman came walking off the trail with his son carrying his skis. He said he thought he broke his shoulder, so I was prepared to ski gently, and avoid the big downhills. Trail looked freshly and expertly groomed, but with full sun and 39F degrees it was getting mushy fast. Used skin skis with a generous coating of Swix Skin care to avoid icing. Still great to get in a few more klicks before the season ends.
