Observation
Big thanks to the grooming crew at Hiawatha! The frequency and quality of grooming this season were big improvement over past years, which seemed to be equipment related. Thanks for providing awesome skiing in SE Minneapolis!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Classic skied the groomed trails mid-afternoon. Groomed trails were intact though icy/slushy from the warm weather thaw cycle. Few bare spots around larger trees, but still passable. A good day to get out.

Grooming

Groomer got out at night and it should be prime. Big and wide, flat and hard skate deck and new classic tracks. The walking/biking/skijoring path was groomed also. Enjoy!

Hiawatha was well used yesterday despite the furrows and cold snap. Classic tracks look good. Skating is another story. The skate lane varies from 4 to 6 feet with two sets of furrows throughout. It's certainly skiable on good skis, but don't expect long, uninterrupted glides. If you have other options, I might avoid until it's been re-groomed.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails groomed, but with a couple of irritating furrows about a five feet apart, a foot wide, and 2" deep all the way around the course. Went once around, and when I got back, took a look at the tracking sled to see what might be wrong. Mystery solved. Looked underneath and found a purple plastic object wedged under the back of the sled. Easily removed by hand, and left on top of sled, see attached pic. No idea what it is, but it's been laying around on the ground at the trailhead for weeks.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Got a nice fresh skate deck out there and dropped classic tracks. Beautiful cord out there as long as the wind stays down overnight. 1 k and 2k cutoffs were also groomed.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle

Trail is freshly groomed. Skate ski conditions are fantastic, firm and fast. Classic trail looked good except for a few short icy areas.

Blissful ski at dawn at Hiawatha. Skating deck was perfectly set, affording long, long steady glides. Thank you groomer for making that unique winter terrain a winter wonderland.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The Monday morning ski will be on a freshly groomed skate deck that is consistent corduroy; no skiers at night = fresh cord for the early skiers! Classic track is thin, but it’s the best we can do at the moment given equipment and snow conditions.

Skate deck was in good shape and firm, even with the warm temps. No bare spots, some leaves and a stick occasionally. Classic tracks from what I saw looked a bit shallow, but decent for the most part, other than a couple of curves.
