Considering the lack of natural snow, Hiawatha Golf Course is holding out well for skate skiing in particular! The groomers have done a nice job with what snow we have, and once you get past the initial 50 meters or so (somewhat icy), you'll find a very pleasant surface for skate skiing. There are a few dips and mounds here and there, but it's really good balance practice and overall not too icy on most of the loop. Classic tracks are understandably shallow and missing in places, but it's certainly possible to classic ski at Hiawatha, just a little more tricky than usual. As the temps warm up, I suspect it will be even more enjoyable! This is a great little gem of a 3K course for a quick little workout if you live nearby - thanks for the continued grooming!

Trails are pretty rough today with lots of people out making the best of it. Skate bounces between ice and several inches of powder with well groomed sections few and far between. Classic tracks looked really beat up.

Snow drifted overnight - no classic tracks, lots of bare spots and icy. Not great for either classic or skating due to ice.

Hiawatha groomers rolled the course tonight. The multi use trail is consistent snow with no grass and probably the best bet for skiing this weekend.

Skiing at Hiawatha was challenging today. Conditions are a mix of icy hardpack with some grass showing through, and a lot of very cold and heavy ungroomed snow drifts. Skate skiing not recommended. Classic could be ok, as long as you are comfortable making your own tracks.

Skied the whole loop this afternoon. There is a lot of drifted snow on the whole course. The trail alternates between hard pack and drifts up to 4” deep.

Hiawatha groomers took two laps with the groomer to flatten things out. It’s hard packed and relatively flat, and the grass spots remain an issue. B skis if you avoid the grass spots.

Surprisingly fair coverage, given the lack of natural snow. Very hard packed with occasional grass poking through and random twigs blown onto the course, but all easily avoidable with the wide deck and flat terrain at Hiawatha. I rated B skis because of those spots to watch out for, but actually used my best skis out of habit and felt comfortable and safe with them. With the sun gleaming, a cool ski partner, and a seeing a guy running in the subzero temps in socks ("actually 3 socks," he said...), it was a super fun outing. Thanks to the groomers and City of Minneapolis for making these cold days tolerable :).

Got up this morning and purchased the Mpls ski pass prior to heading to Hiawatha GC for our FOY skijor outings. Great job by the groomers working with what we have! Some grass poking through but the cart path was negligible! Our skijor team really appreciates the work on the multiuse trail!

Hiawatha groomers groomed two laps with the groomer today. Lots of skiers at Hiawatha! Conditions on the ski loop are rock ski conditions with occasional and avoidable grass and sticks. The multi use trail has more consistent snow at this point and could be B ski conditions. No asphalt or gravel to speak of.
