Trail Reports

2022-2023 season
Reports 57 to 63 of 63    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Skijored with a group this morning. Alternated between nice firm surface and terrible rutted ice. We had fun, but I'd recommend against skiing Cedar until we get new snow and groomers can get out.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Cedar Lake was a little windblown in parts, and groomed with a narrow path in other parts - but still very skiable under the sunshine today. The Cedar Lake "bathtub" (big hole cut in the ice) appears to be open and ready for anyone looking for a cool dip in the lake. No grooming on the Cedar "land" trail that I could see.

Skied down from South Wirth and did half of Cedar. Some slushy parts on the lakes that are avoidable. It was harder to follow the trail on Cedar due to the thawing snow somewhat obscuring the trail. Very enjoyable with the warm temps.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Brownie Lake is groomed, and Cedar Lake has been rolled with a narrow skate deck, and skating was surprisingly good today for the soft snow. The Brownie to Cedar tunnel is glare ice, so you'll need to walk carefully. No grooming through the Kenilworth channel due to LRT construction.

Grooming
[ B skis ]
Brownie Lake is groomed and excellent. We rolled a trail on Cedar Lake last night with mixed success (snow drifts and bare ice while grooming in the dark make for some route choice challenges)- should be fine for skiing.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails: Closed, Good skis ]
Lots of people out classic skiing, no officially groomed trails. The channel between Isles and Cedar is blocked for the season. I did not get to Cedar lake or Brownie. Not great skiing but passable for classic.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails: Closed, B skis ]
Skied in my own tracks on BMS (former Calhoun) and Isles (no machine grooming). Sunny, but -16F with 15mph NW winds. DO: Ski with BC or OT classic setup. Layers of clothes with no exposed skin. Hydrate with hot beverage. Embrace the adventure and have fun. Do NOT: expect Prima Donna pristine LL Bean groomed perfect. I used Madshus 78mm Backcountry Nordic with Rottefella XPLORE binding and Alfa BOA boots, Marmot Rain coat customized with Wolf Ruff, +3 layers wool shirts, Marmot DH ski pants, 2 pair wool socks, Heavy leg gaiters customized with wool liner, Expedition mittens AND wool glove (3 layers on hands), Wool balaclava and wool neck gaiter plus Apple Music Top 100 EDM of 2022.
