The Upper Gunflint Trail System has spectacular conditions right now. I skied the Overlook and West End Trails today and found them to be in great condition. Most of the trails were groomed after the last snowfall a couple of days ago, and all trails have been published recently. So far this season, Gunflint Lake has received 47.5 inches of snow, making for an 8 - 12 inch base, and a 20 - 22 inches of powder beside the trails.

Plenty of snow but dissapointed in grooming. Set tracks allowed good striding in portions of Overlook, Highlands, Rabbit Run and Ham Lake trails but snow base has not been packed well and tree branches extend into ski zones, both from ground up and from side brush and trees. Needs some trimming. A bit awkward going down hills to get slapped by brush. Stepping out of track results in sinking into unpacked base. Not what I expect for $15/day fee. I will be going elsewhere to ski. Would be difficult to skate ski with these conditions.

I skied the Big Pine Trail today. It was fast, but not icy. The base depth was 6 - 12 inches. Snow depths beside the trail ranged from 18 - 21 inches. There has been 41 inches of snow this season. Trail conditions are excellent.
