Grooming [ Trails Open: All, ]
|
For the first time in 23 months, we did a full groom of the entire system. The dry snow called for many passes to get it compressed. Scott and Chris ran the roller for about 2 hours each and I ran the Tidd Tech for about 2 as well. It usually works out to an hour of grooming per inch of snow. Conditions should be great in the woods on Sunday. The fields were groomed and should be ok, but there still may be some thin spots and cornstalk stalks sticking up. We made a change to the trail in Damroth's field on the south end due to the ground becoming too rough to cover. If we get a couple of feet of snow, we should be able to go back to the original route. So get out before the game and enjoy the snow!

Skating on Saturday morning was pretty good. I only had one ground grab of my skis in 17k and I think that was a stick that I saw. Decent glide on 22 year old skis with the dusting of snow we picked up on Friday. We have enough snow to skate on, but not enough to set tracks. The trails in the fields to the south of the woods are not open yet, they need more snow. For the first time in 2 years, the timer has been set so the lights will be on every night from dusk until 9:00 PM.

Skiing Thursday evening at +3F had the glide of styrofoam. But the skate deck is well covered and yielded some glide in areas. I wouldn't use good skis, but there aren't any big rocks looking to eat your skis for lunch. We have a nice level deck, waiting for snow.
