Trail Reports

2021-2022 season
Reports 1 to 3 of 3    Month: Jan | Dec
Tuesday, January 25, 2022
Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
There was 3 to 4 inches of new snow over the weekend which freshened the local base. Trails were groomed and tracked today. Trail conditions are fair to good. Due to the shallow base there are some spots with exposed grass, twigs or a rare root in the tracks, but this affects less than 5% of the trail currently. The views, the sunshine and the quiet was amazing here today.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
All trails except a section of the small loop in the family campground are skiable. However, the short loop section is in poor condition since Wildcat hosted its night ski/hike event last Saturday. There was not enough snow to track the loop, so the hikers spread out over the entire trail width, causing serious pitting from bootprints. Once past the section of trail used during the night event (which extends to the beginning of the group campground) the trail is in fair to good condition with a solid, but shallow base and no tracking. The trail should be adequate for B skis but avoid the Johnnycake overlook unless you are using rock skis. A skier can bypass the majority of the rough area by skiing alongside the group camp road rather than along the designated ski trail in order to access the better trails further back (East).

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Three inches of fresh snow allowed park staff to groom the main trail. However, they are not tracked since the base is not very deep. Overlooks are skier tracked. Generally the trails are in fair to good condition, but due to low snow levels, avoid Johnny Cake overlook or use rock skis there.
