After a sudden windy snow squall while skiing earlier at St. John's University, I came over to Kraemer Lake and was greeted by nice sunshine and blue skies. I have wanted to ski here for years but most seasons there has been a lack of snow. It doesn't appear the trails have been groomed since the last snowfall but most places you could follow the partially snowed-in tracks. The first 1/2 km. was fairly drifted over but pretty good after that. A very beautiful wooded area with a few nice hills. Thanks Stearns County Parks for having these ski trails.

With the light, fluffy snow and forecasted high winds staff are only rolling/packing the trails today Thursday. The strategy behind rolling today is that the grooves made by packer will catch the blowing snow and thus keep more snow on our trails. By keeping more snow on our ski trails we can (hopefully) extend their lifespan and maybe even ski longer than a week at a time. Groomers will be out Friday to set classic tracks.

Only skied easy trail. Excellent base. Light glaze on some parts. Trail blown-in in some places, and someone had walked on the trail. Still some decent grooves in where not blown in. Occasional sticks and some leaves. Still a bit chilly today, wear warm gloves/bring hand warmers.

All the trails are set with two classic tracks. The conditions are fair to poor depending on snow depth and some icy spots.

Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All ]
The thawing and then freezing of the snow has made the trails very icy and some areas are quite treacherous. We would not recommend skiing at this time.
