Two inches of new snow was groomed and tracked late morning with nice results. The skate lane was also refreshed Friday afternoon. Many Thanks to James M. for his efforts.

Grooming

The trail has been groomed twice in the last three days, thanks to James M. A new striding track was set yesterday and skiers reported conditions were a bit soft, but should improve with use.

Pleasantly surprised to find very good conditions on the entire trail system beginning from Three Lakes to Eagle River; plenty of snow on the three bridges that connect trail system. The classical tracks looked very good too.

Grooming

Last night's snowfall left us with about an inch of wet snow. Not ideal for grooming but was able to comb the skate deck and set a new track with decent results. I would still recommend using the B skis on the striding track until we get another decent snowfall.

Well groomed, but well used, the Three Eagle is valuable in times like these. No hills, but a firm base, clean deck, and something akin to a track. In bad winters, this trail remains one of the finest opportunities around. On the good side, with five bridges, in a usual winter, wind blow can wipe out the track. No such problem here, today! Oh well...very beautiful, very enjoyable.

Classic tracks are nice and smooth with plenty of snow and nice tracks laid. Bit of a dusty stretch near the middle with a small amount of grit on the tracks. Skate deck looked good as far as I noticed. Some hiker and dog footprints on the edge of the skate deck in a few spots, but not too severe anywhere. Thanks groomers!

Skating deck was in good shape and well covered. Lots of hiker footprints at west trailhead. I noticed the no hiking on ski trail sign was on old gate and people can’t see it. Kudos to groomers for laying down a good track.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Grooming plans: We had intentions to refresh the skate deck and repair the damage from a snowmobile that breached the gate over the past weekend. But due to heavy use, lack of new snowfall and warmer temps there is little we can do with the grooming until we get more snow.

Great ski conditions today. Looks like 2 snowmobiles got on or off the trail at the north end and ran the trail, left some damage to the classic tracks. We went to Mud Creek Bridge and looks like sleds ran beyond that point.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
I refreshed the skate lane and set a new track with nice results. We still could use some more snow for the striding track base but overall pretty good for what we have to work with. Happy New Year and thanks to all the skiers who really make it worthwhile for volunteers to keep the trail in good shape.
