Firsthand: Classic Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
64km of trail open. 34km tracked for classic, 15km groomed skate 15km packed for no track classic skiing 4km open with bushwhack skier made track. Grooming today included combing out Skaters Waltz and packing Bullhead Lake/Bootleg extension on the east part of the trail system. It is the first time we have groomed Bootleg since before Covid restrictions. Changing things up a bit on Bullhead/Bootleg which includes bypassing the north beaver dam crossing and instead grooming across the lake to pick up the trail. Option to come back on the lake or navigate the north end of the lake to pick up the return on the north side. Next grooming we will groom around the lake for additional km on the lake. Late afternoon classic skied after grooming. Skied Sukkerbusk and Rootin Tootin. Rootin Tootin in really good shape for classic and would be my top pick for classic skiing after skiing all the other trails that are tracked. Scheduling/operating plans: Saturday we will have a low key skate race on Skaters Waltz from 10am-11am. All trails will remain open. The Brant lodge is open for day use area/warming/changing area. We also have lodging openings in the two cabooses for the weekend.

Firsthand: Freestyle Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Conditions reported good to very good. All 64km of trail open. 30km tracked for classic, 15km groomed skate 10km packed for no track classic skiing 9km open with bushwhack skier made track.
Continue to work on the outer trails, first tracking Rootin Tootin trail at sunrise en route to the longest trail on the system Roy's Run. Attempted to set tracks on Roy's but determined best to comb out instead. After Roy's headed west via Loon Return and tracked 75% of Wavy Gravy and packed and combed Island lake trail which is open for no track classic skiing. After tracking combed out the 15km of skate trail. The remainder of the 25km fat bike loop was also groomed today. At dusk I skated all the skate trails. Was nice having the track on North Loup for the downhills which is groomer's choice for both skate and classic.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Additional trails tracked today, cutting a single track on Twin Lakes and North Loup. Sap Run and Sukkerbusk reset with a gentle renovation using the Ginzu groomers. We now have 20km of trails tracked for classic skiing. We also combed the 15km of skate trails. All 64km of trail are open. The east side of the fat bike trails also groomed today. At sunset I classic skied Sukkerbusk, Twin Lakes, North Loup and Sap Run. Best coverage was on Sukkerbusk and North Loup groomed and skied better than I expected. The transformed base at bottom of the track skied fast considering the temperature.

[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Maplelag got 3 inches of snow and Jay did a fabulous job of grooming the beautiful trails. Temperature was teens below zero. For safety reasons only skied short runs near our Cabin. Sap Run, Jib Fly, Mother North Star, Sukkerbusk.

Snow coverage was good over MLK weekend and the skiing was great! All trails are open. Opportunities for first tracks if that's your thing, or plenty of groomed trails if that's your preference.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Reset track this morning on Sap Run,JibFly, Sukkebusk and also set new track on Mother Hen, Poki Loki and Mother North Star for a total of 13km track set. Everything is setting up firm making it easier to set track now which bodes well for additional trail to be tracked next week. Skaters Waltz was roll combed. Although the air temp was colder today, feels a bit warmer with sunshine and subsiding winds. Classic skied a few trails in the afternoon and found real nice skiing. The bottom of the track is transformed frozen granulated snow (hardsugar) and glides much better in colder weather providing windblown snow abides. Good to see a few other folks out as well.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Great day on the trails! Awesome seeing so many people out, even though we hovered around -5 all day with a little wind. Getting very close to mid winter conditions. Another 1-2" of snow the past 24 hours, bit more snow on the northwest part of the trail system. Out grooming today as planned and did a bit more than expected. Started the day setting a new track on Sukkebusk than roll combed about 40-45km of trail. Finished the grooming day cutting another track on Sukkerbusk and a track on Sap Run and JibFly. Skied at dusk and found really nice conditions considering we have 4-5" of snow depth in the woods. The compacted base is 2-3". There are some scattered grassy areas at bottom of tracks, maybe a small rock here and there but I had no issue. The skate decks groomed up very nice and we now have all the skate trails open. If particular on scratching B skis, I would recommend early season/rock/stick skis on North Loup.
Grooming plans: Will be back out in the morning resetting new track if much drifting/blowing snow and combing out the skate lanes for sure on 15km.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
We groomed much of the trail system after the most recent dusting, roll packing with the roller and combing with the Ginzu. We set a hasty track on 80% of Sukkerbusk. All 65km of trail are open but recommend skating on Skaters Waltz and the extension and Sukkerbusk and Wavy Gravy for classic. Early season conditions. Use a little extra caution on the outer trails, especially on the downhills. Bullhead is only trail not groomed yet but open for bushwhacking adventures. Entire 25km Fat Bike trail groomed again this afternoon. Grooming plans: We plan to be back out in the morning if any new snow and will try to set more track if conditions allow.
