We skied at Maplelag Resort this past weekend. The trails where in great condition all around. It was a winter wonderland, and everyone had a wonderful time skiing along with top notch food. We even got to see a porcupine on the trail! Well done Maplelag family, thank you.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
100% open on 90km of trail. 50km tracked for classic only skiing, 15km groomed skate only and 5km designated as adventure skiing with skier made track. 20km of separate fat bike trail with grooming planned this evening on fat bike trails. Daily dustings of fluffy silk snow combined with regular grooming making for excellent conditions. Still some powder stashes on the sledding hill, the ice rink is ready and over 400 acres to explore on snowshoe. Enjoy winter!
We have been working on the outer trails this week with Bullhead and Bootleg Extension trails now opened and groomed (outside of the "adventure ski" segments). With the high water tables this year and abundant snowfall, water is running in unusual areas. We have been building temp bridges and until they are completed, simply ski around these areas (not recommended to use race skis on the "adventure skiing" segments.) Enjoy nature!

The trails were awesome! Highland Park Nordic was able to ski for hours without repeating any trails! Thanks to the awesome Maplelag crew who hosted an incredible ski camp for us!

The trails at Maplelag are in great condition. Skiing was excellent today! We skied the Island Lake and Twin Lake trails, starting about noon. And while it was cold outside, being able to enjoy Maplelag's warm hospitality in the lodge was the perfect antidote for the weather following a couple of good hours on their ski trails...the cookie jars are full and the coffee is on. A very fine start for the 2019-20 Nordic ski season!

Fantastic conditions with about one inch of fresh powder. Fresh tracks set, among others, on Twin Lakes, Wavy Gravy, and my ever favorite: Roy's Run. I skied a total of 30K. It was nice to see the enthusiastic high-school skiers. First-rate recreation, thanks, I can't wait to be back!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Another 2" of new snow throughout the day, bringing the week total to about 8". Lovely day of skiing and grooming. Very good to excellent conditions. We groomed about 55km throughout the day including setting track on the outer singletrack trails that hadn't been tracked this year. This evening we combed out the skate trails after the HS kids were done with their night ski. We will be back out in the morning touching up a few of the classic trails.

Conditions like in January. I skied Sukkerbusk twice, also Mother North Star, Rootin Tootin, and Wavy Gravy, total of 23 K. Fresh tracks set on fresh snow. It looks like the perfect season-opener!

Good to excellent early season conditions. 2" of new snow past 24 hours with lingering flurries gently falling throughout the day. Nice to have the temp climb back above 0 after yesterday morning low of -25.
Grooming on 50km of trail today, 30km set for classic skiing only, around 20km packed and combed for skating. We will be back out in the morning touching up some of the trails today and setting track on more outer trails to have 45km tracked for classic only on the weekend combined. Some of the marsh crossings on the outer trails still a bit rough but labeled as "adventure" skiing and passable throughout. 20km of fat bike trail groomed Tuesday evening. Firm deck with this dusting of new snow on top.

Firsthand: Classic Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
We woke up to 4-5" of new snow and temps around zero, falling down to -15F at dusk. Skies cleared making for a beautiful day. We groomed on 60km of trail today in the subzero temps, packing and combing and setting double track on about 15km of trail. A classic ski at dusk found the tracks setting up nicely and the new snow providing excellent early season conditions. We plan to be grooming daily with majority of track setting on Thursday.
