2022-2023 season

With a 4PM start, the snowmaking loop was in fair to poor condition despite the 27 degree temperature. If a trail section was sun-exposed, it was softly rutted, wet corn. Generally no trouble passing thru those sections but it broke my stride on both sides of the climb to the top of Scenic. Still no big accumulation of corn snow towards the top of the Boulder summit or on the climb after the right angle turn on Frog Town. However, the snow plow wake on the Boulder downhill was big enough to be intimidating when I skied it but I got thru okay. The challenging conditions cut my pace by 12% relative to my Sunday and Tuesday skis. Hope they can groom overnight because if not the ruts will freeze and make skiing far more challenging until the snow softens again.

The weather perfect, plentiful snow: the makings for a great night of skiing. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like anything was groomed last night, so the conditions were difficult; not recommended for skate. Double pole in classic track was fast (icy).

Excellent conditions for skate skiing on the entire snowmaking loop at 12:30 pm. Firm, fast snow, freshly groomed again overnight. Bright sun. Blue sky. No wind. Classic tracks were also still well set. Hills facing the sun were just starting to soften up about 1:15 pm.

The snowmaking loop was in very good condition. Frozen corduroy in a few spots, couple spots of ice towards the top of the climb on Willow connecting to Frog Town, otherwise generally light sugar on top of a hard base. Still no heavy sugar, even on the top of Boulder or on the climb after right angle turn on Frog Town. No snowplow wake on the Boulder downhill. It was 28 degrees according to my car's thermometer. Thus I switched to skis waxed with FastWax Red LF. Seemed slower than my ski on Sunday morning when it was around 34 degrees. But my pace, the 2nd fastest of my season, was identical.

I classic skied all of the snowmaking trails between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Conditions were excellent for my skin skis. Tracks were well set. Conditions were fast! Temperature was about 34°F. It had been sunny earlier, but it was cloudy while I was skiing.

Skied the entire 5k artificial snow loop, but none of the others. Conditions were perfect from 10:30-11:30 am. Could not have been better!

We had another great spring ski at Hyland early this afternoon! The classic tracks had a little ice and slush, but we all had good kick and glide. The skate deck was also in good shape. These days have been perfect with cool temps at night, and warm afternoons. Thanks to Hyland for continuing to groom this week.

Skied basically everything pretty early this morning. Different stories between manmade and natural snow trails. Manmade snow loop, as others have noted, is excellent. Good for good skis and in all-around fantastic condition. Natural snow trails had also gotten a couple passes from the groomer last night on the skate deck. Hill / Lake were pretty dicey (well, more accurately they were pretty icy!): often hard to get an edge and downhills were at times treacherous. These trails don't have much time left. The north side natural trails were quite pleasant in contrast: very little ice and generally not dissimilar surface to what could be found on the manmade except in a couple isolated spots. Try to get out on them while you still can. Thanks again groomers, pretty phenomenal for late March!

The tracks on the man made snow loop were in fabulous condition to the end of March. There is hard ice below a tiny dusting created from the groomers. My skin skis had excellent kick and glide. Fastest conditions this season. When the temps started creeping over 32, things started to slow down particularly in the sunny spots. I'm so happy to still be out skiing! Thank you groomers.

The snowmaking loop was in fabulous condition this morning. Just enough snow had been scratched up by the groomers to provide a great skate deck. No place was there deep sugar - not on the climb to the top of of Boulder or on the climb on Frog Town. Was able to skate up every hill except from the intermediate shelf to the top of Boulder. There was negligible snowplow wake on the Boulder downhill. It was about 34 degrees at my 10:45 start. Nearly equaled my fastest pace of the year on a less hilly course. Thanks for the great job groomers.
