I did a pre-dawn ski this morning. With a really nice grooming last night (thank you, groomers!) the natural trails between Glenwood and the Trailhead are as close to perfect as they get. Not too firm, not too soft, no thin/bare spots that I could see, minimal debris, and no real ice. Even the spots that are often icy were great. Under 55 is thin/icy/dirty but still skiable. The spot where Tornado Alley forks away from the RR tracks and onto the golf course may be getting some exposed asphalt or ice (it was hard to tell in the dark), but easily avoidable. Skyline is back to its original configuration that wraps around the shelter on the first hill. That hill had a bit of a dirty spot, but not too bad. The connector to Trail 18 was in great shape (but keep an eye out for the curb on your right on your way down!). The classic tracks look like they were not re-set last night but they seemed like they were consistent and in good shape.

I skied Bridge, Tornado Alley, Bassett Creek, JD Rivers and Wirth Lake early this morning. I was optimistic, but the conditions have degraded quite a bit. If there is grooming this morning that may help, but generally I found the trails to be hard packed and icy, dirty, thin in many spots, with lots of debris. It was hard to get an edge in many places. I think there is some risk of damage in several spots, but also a risk of falling - especially on some of the downhill turns where it may be quite icy. Bridges are also getting very thin/icy.

The manmade loop was in good shape. A fair amount of leaves in the tracks on the twin lakes trail. Gorgeous sunset. Always love the fantastic grooming this world class ski trail provides.

Fantastic grooming on all the natural snow trails between the Trailhead and Glenwood - highly recommended for skate and classic! Good place to avoid the Sunday races. Park at Glenwood - Wirth Beach.

Nice morning for the made-snow loop. The deck was soft due to the temps, but just a little, and no sugar. Some of the downhills were getting closer to a hard pack, and snowplowing on the North Finger u-turn scraped it down to a more crusty surface, but there was plenty of soft snow around it to step/skate. The wind on that side made it less fun than the rest of the course. Three deer ran across the Twin Lakes trail mid-morning, apparently heading for the MTB trails.

Skied the man made snow trails. First time this year at Wirth North. It was about perfect with good tracks and great grooming. I slipped a little on the hills with blue kick wax at 30 degrees but the gliding was fantastic.

I did an early morning ski on all the natural trails between Glenwood and Wirth Parkway (plus most of the snowmaking loop). It was really great conditions out there! Very nice grooming job overnight. The trails seemed almost perfect to me. It's thin but everything is covered. I didn't see much that gave me any concern. Like yesterday, the Bridge trail between Tornado Alley and Skyline (especially headed from the bridge toward Skyline) is super icy. I recommend double poling there. There is a bad spot on Skyline (first incline where the trail veers to the right and uphill), and the hill with the Finish Monument on JD Rivers has some ice under the new snow. But nothing that can't be avoided.

Skied everything manmade. An inch of fluffy powder on top of solid grooming. The powder was a bit sticky and slowed things down a little, though over the course of the afternoon the sun and the traffic started speeding things up. No icy spots that I could find, a tiny bit sugary on a couple uphills but mostly very, very good. Please remember to avoid skating onto the track.

I ventured out onto the natural trails for the first time since the warm up last week, and also did the snowmaking loop. All the trails had at least an inch of light fluffy snow on top of the most recent grooming - it was nice and fast with the cold temps. On the natural trails, I just did JD Rivers, Bassett Creek, Tornado Alley, and Bridge. Conditions were quite decent - I didn't see any spots that I thought might cause damage. I was quite cautious because I wasn't sure how much depth there was, and how much ice I might find. The only spots with a lot of ice (under the powder) were on the Bridge trail loop between Tornado Alley and Skyline. The connector to the snowmaking loop was in good shape, though there is some ice on the bridge and between the bridge and the golf course. Under 55 was fine.
