I almost didn't do the natural trails today because yesterday they seemed quite icy. But, I'm glad I did. JD Rivers, Bassett Creek, Tornado Alley, Bridge, and Skyline. Overall things felt great (if I didn't know better I'd think we got some fresh snow last night - really great nightly grooming happening - thank you groomers!) There are definitely some hard packed icy stretches where it was hard to get an edge (bridge trail between tornado alley and skyline was bad, and JD rivers on the Finish monument hill is bad), but other than that I was pleasantly surprised. The spot with road debris on the south side of the 55 overpass is quite dirty and it feels like sandpaper under your skis - need to use caution there.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Skied the skyline trail and bridge trail this evening in the natural snow area. Solid classic tracks on about 90% of trails, albeit a little icy in spots, with the occasional washed out tracks. Leaves and grass poking through occasionally in the tracks as well as on the skate deck. I'm hoping for more snowfall and less melting in the coming weeks.

Same as usual on the made snow. Solid conditions with excellent traction in the downhills despite heavy traffic. The tracks were a little icy due to warming and cooling. Once the sun was fully out it caused some sticky, softer spots and some cooler, crisper spots (though I was getting kick in the warm spots). Still no North Finger, and still no tracks down some of the hills. Would love tracks down the catwalk hill in particular.

I skied most of the natural trails north of Glenwood early Friday morning. Very nice fresh grooming overnight. Overall trails are holding up really well, but there are a few spots to be careful on. Most notably, south of the 55 overpass it looks like a snowplow dumped a bunch of road debris off the bridge. I skied right into it coming down the hill toward 55. Chunks of dirty ice, probably salt, perhaps some rocks and other things (hard to see in the dark). It's a pretty big swath of trail covered with this stuff - might consider taking off your skis, but definitely be cautious. Other than that, the hill around the Finish monument on JD Rivers is pretty icy/thin. Otherwise it was fast, super fun, great coverage, and not much debris except for a few spots here and there.

The deck was a bit soft in the damp warm air. No mush on uphills or anything, just a bit of soft snow. The snow got noticeably firmer as the wind whipped across it and the temps dropped a few degrees. The hill leaving Twin Lakes was pretty speedy, with more of a pull toward the outer edge. Plenty of traction on all the hills despite evident snowplowing.

Despite the cold in the morning, there were several classes going. The deck was frozen corduroy but not icy at all. The tracks were frosty and perfect. Several downhills still didn't have tracks such as the turn leaving green meadow, the top hill in the back of Twin Lakes, the hill leaving Twin Lakes, the Catwalk, etc. other than that it was near perfection for classic. Great tracks and easy control on all of the downs.

Fast conditions tonight, and the warm breeze helped a ton too. Best conditions I've skied in this season. All the lighted trails are open. Only north finger and Judy loop remain closed in the north as a whole. Bridge trail from the chalet lot was a great way to get to the main trails.

Afternoon

The snowmaking loops were in perfect condition this afternoon. It was nice to have the Inner Meadow and the Twin Lake loops open again for skiing. I only saw a handful of people out on the trail--it was a little cold, but not bad with the sunshine! Thanks to the groomers for always having it in great shape at Theo!

I skied the natural trails north of Glenwood (except Wirth Lake) and the machine made trails early Monday morning. There was about an inch (or more?) of fresh powder on all the natural trails and on twin lake/green meadow on the machine loop. Overall natural trails seemed great coverage wise. I was using good skis, but you may want to use B skis. Under the powder there was definitely ice in several places throughout. JD Rivers had a few icy spots, bridge trail had several, and skyline had a few. But for the most part the conditions were fast and fun with the fluffy powder. I don't think I encountered anything that would cause damage, but the icy spots could knock you off balance for sure. Under Hwy 55 seemed fine (I double poll under there but others were skating and seemed OK).
