Word of the day is variable. The man-made snow loop was nicely groomed and the tracks were mostly good. In mid-afternoon the sun and temperature meant that some areas were almost slushy, while just a few feet further, everything was hard. Be careful coming down from Coach's Corner - you get alternating very soft and hard sections. But a beautiful day to be out.

The 3.5K was freshly groomed overnight and was in great shape this morning, no real icy spots to speak of but crusty and fast. Things did transform notably over the course of the morning: despite the cool temps, the warm sun still has a lot of melting power and things did start to get slushy! You'd likely be fine using good skis, just a bit of debris mixed into the snow at this point in the season. Remember to pay more attention to the sun than the air temp if you're looking for crusty goodness!

Well another stellar ski with incredible klister conditions and Guru 39 Extreme as the winner. Tracks were shallow and soft to icy but that did not matter, kick was great and the first lap I was all alone. Go ski. Thank you groomers.

Observation Scheduling
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
We are going to continue grooming a smaller loop on the snowmaking trails - Green Meadow, Twin Lakes, and up to Coach's Corner. Normally our operating agreement with MPRB has us stopping grooming by the 22nd, but they are letting us get get some bonus days in. Continued grooming will be dependent on weather and conditions.

I skied the remaining man-made snow loops at around 2 pm today. Temps in the 40 and sunshine made it enjoyable, even though a rookie skater like me found the conditions a bit challenging. Lots of loose granular on the uphills and some grabby warm spots on the downhills. Still, great to ski a few loops and enjoy a cool beverage in the Trailhead. The snow is browning, but is mostly free from debris. Classic tracks are but a shadow, though I saw quite a few classic skiers enjoying the snow. A great day on the Loppet trails.

Terrific skating conditions on the man-made snow loop at Wirth on Saturday morning. Groomed last night, full coverage, firm and fast, zero ice, just a little dirty. Loop is about 4km and fun, with the WC sprint course included. Classic track was shallow but present throughout. Would be great for grooming to continue as long as it keeps freezing overnight.

I skated on the man made snow trails and conditions were good. A bit soft on some of the downhills. The classic tracks where intermittently set.

Still very good. Classic tracks are better the closer you get to the trail head. I wasn't paying close attention though.

I hit the trails at 3 pm and 36 degrees, perfect for no wax skis! The classic tracks had a little slush and some ice, but I still had a good kick and glide. The skate deck was slushy, but the skaters didn't seem to mind. One skier was shirtless and working on his tan. I came across some turkeys trying to use the trail on the way to Coach's Corner! Thanks to the Theo groomers for extending the season!

I skate skied this morning for an hour from 8:30 to 9:30, and I did the Meadows/Twin Lakes loop plus up to Coaches Corner and then back to the Start/Finish area (I bypassed the Sled Hill/Machine Shed/ Trailhead Bridge portion). The trail was in good condition throughout the loop I did. Some of the surfaces that are more exposed to the sun are starting to turn to ice, but for the most part, those sections are not problematic. I can confirm that the classic track, which I hopped into from time to time, was not particularly inviting with lots of icy rubble. That is the reason that I, a confirmed strider, skate skied this morning: I just think the conditions are better now for skating. Since this may be my last trail report, I want to express gratitude for the TW and Loppet Trail grooming crew. Really, this is world-class stuff you folks do. Thanks.
