Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
I skied classic at Elm Creek this afternoon. The tracks were in great shape and the deck looked good with little or no sugar on the hills. There were dozens of little kids just learning to ski so I didn't stay long.

Only five skiers at 9:30 am, more when I left. South donut and switchback open, so 2.4 km per loop. Trail in good shape but cold and slow snow, at least for me.

Yay, the South Donut is open! Grooming was very good for both skating and classic. For some reason my glide was the worst of the year bar none.

Both skating deck and classic tracks in excellent shape. They were making snow and moving it around on the South Donut, so hopefully it won't be too long before it's open.

For the first time in all the years I've been skiing at this beautiful park, I was by myself. Literally not a single sole on the entire course. Bitter cold and wind will do that, but the course itself was pristine. The snow was good, and the grooming was incredible. The deck was firm with perfect corduroy, and the tracks were amazing - firm and well-defined, no washout areas. If you can bundle up and get out there, it is worth it.

No new segments open. Some very nice hard track, some completely blown in. Really felt the wind and snow gun drift between the downhill skill park and the parking lot. Guru green kicked pretty nicely in fairly slow conditions. I'm happy to have places to ski with our continued dearth of snow.

I did classic at Elm Creek this morning, boy that breeze was chilly! The tracks were in great condition, I had both good kick and glide except for a couple of spots where the drift from the guns landed. The downhill tracks in the donut were really quick. There are two guns on the hill bypass but I didn't see any thing on the whale tail. The deck looked good and firm and the two skaters I talked too seemed happy. Dress warmly, I was chilly the first two laps then was OK until my 9th lap when my feet started to get cold. They were setting up for a meet later today.

Much colder this morning, snow getting harder, close to icy, in places. Some part of the trail with soft snow from the snow cannons. Donut loop reopened.

Conditions great at Elm Creek this morning. The final .5k is still not open and no snow guns were blowing onto the trail. All guns were on the alpine/tubing area. There were a few piles of snow on the final section.

Not crowded this morning around 9:30 am. Donut loop closed due to groomer having broken down. Switchback being prepared for opening. Good snow overall, lower temperatures help. Without the donut it's a 1.40 km loop vs 1.80km. Race planned for 2 pm.
