[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied a bit with Birkie age group winner skier John B. Trails were great...best corduroy I've seen this year. Natural snow was a little faster than man-made area except there was still some colder, slow snow in shaded areas. Eagle classic tracks were reset since I skied them yesterday. Delightful day to be out now that the temps have warmed and the wind subsided. The groomers have reset the classic tracks to the middle more so you don't have to ski in the brush. There was a little post-holing with the poles yesterday along 109th where they crammed in classic tracks on both sides and the outer edge was soft.

Some of the best skiing this year. Trails were well groomed with plenty of snow. The outer Banks were soft and your pole will go deep if you plant wide.

Skied classic trails from Nature Center. One track of two was destroyed by snowmobile, but Creek Trail still passable. Fun outing, although cold in the wind.

I did a few classic ski loops on the Northern Lights trails to stay out of the wind. The trails were freshly groomed and the tracks were perfect except they had not set a track on the short cut trail through the middle of the loop. Also I did not see a set track on the part of the Lake trail I could see from the picnic area. Possibly setting the tracks was in progress on the outer trails. Great day to be out skiing. Seemed more like January than March.

Skijored multiuse loop at dusk. Pup and I were both very excited that the trail had been groomed and was fairly fast. All of last week's snow drift moguls were nicely groomed out. Groomers had a full day today.

Enjoyed pristine classic conditions thanks to lots of snow and great grooming. The skate deck was a bit soft but no one was complaining.

Firsthand: Freestyle Observation
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I arrived at the overflow parking lot at 10 am and was thrilled to see the spur from the lot to the Northern lights trail had been groomed (it wasn't last weekend and I had to wade through shin-deep snow in skate skis to access the trail). I skied Lake, Creek, and much of Valley/Northern lights and found all trails to be freshly groomed this morning with classic tracks set everywhere. I coasted down a few hills in the classic tracks and found them to be firm and perhaps faster than the skate deck. I also skied the outer multiuse trail and found it to perhaps have been groomed sometime yesterday afternoon before the snow stopped falling as I could see signs of grooming under about 2-3" of fresh powder. The skate deck on the groomed trails was a bit squeaky/snow but otherwise very nice. Glide seemed to be better on the multiuse trail but speeds were nonetheless slow there as well due to the soft surface and the expected multiuse footprints, snowshoes, etc. I did not ski the Eagle or Monarch classic only trails but, based on a visual observation as I skied past the Monarch trail, it did seem to have been groomed between the previous report below and when I went by later in the morning. Pictures are the spur from the overflow lot, the multiuse trail near the Nature center and Northern Lights at the access point from the overflow lot.

I classic skied starting at 8:30 am and found the classic track situation to be different from what Elm Creek posted in their 8:15 am update. Eagle was freshly double-tracked, and was in excellent condition. However, there were no fresh classic tracks set anywhere north of the creek. Monarch Trail was packed sometime before the snow had stopped falling; there were newly skied-in tracks in about 2 inches of fresh snow, but absolutely no sign of groomed tracks, contrary to Elm Creek's report. That was disappointing, after counting on the Elm Creek official update, but the fresh snowfall and hoarfrost were stunning. The Creek Trail (south of the creek only) had fresh, solid tracks, and was a pleasure to ski, as were the Lake Trail and Northern Lights.

Skied the nature center trail today in the falling snow. It's a winter wonderland. Soft and slow. Skied this part of the trail yesterday also along with the other classic tracks. The tracks were set quite far right and brush and trees were in play on the other classic tracks. The trail along the creek is the most scenic part in my mind.

I skiied the Eastman and Creek trails with falling snow in the late morning. The Eastman trails were freshly tracked. Great skiing!
