New Reports Report Requests

Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

Hard to describing how great the conditions are in Bayfield right now. Major improvements to the overall trails and grooming compared to my last visit a few years ago.

Skied 34 km today from 11 am to 1:30 pm. Spring skiing is here! The classic tracks were excellent, especially in reference to temperatures near 45 F. Glide was fairly good and kick was good! I used Fischer twin skin carbon pros.. Around 12:30 pm the tracks started to soften up a bit, and by 1 pm slushy slow areas were developing. By 1:30 pm it was soft enough to call it a day. Planning on a morning ski, could be the best for firm snow. Ski on.

Conditions are excellent with a 6-12 inch base. Sunday night Scott flat dragged and tracked Sugarbush Classic, Seagull Classic, Oppedahl's, and the lower Sugarbush Classic trails. Early Monday morning The Beginners Loop, Anchor, Seagull, Roller Coaster, Jolly, Skid Road, Abbey Road, Seagull Cut-Off, Northern Lights, and Buzz were groomed and tracked. Scott thinks the tracks he set Sunday night could be the best of the season. The weather looks ideal for this first week in March.

Early Saturday morning Abbey Road, Northern Lights, Buzz, Jolly, Anchor, Seagull, and Roller Coaster were groomed with a new track set. A new classic track was set on Oppedahl’s, and Sugar Bush. Skate conditions are excellent, some of the classic tracks are not up to our usual standard but the rest are great, The base is still holding up well with 6-12 inches.

Just wanted to give the Mt. Ashwabay grooming voulnteers another thank you, skied 20 km yesterday classic and the conditions were excellent for the weather. Finished the in-person Birkie early this afternoon. Being able to ski and train everyday at Mt. Ashwabay let me ski my best Birkie yet. Training times at Mt. Ashwabay were right on par with my Birkie time. Thanks to the consistent conditions at Mt. Ashwabay, awesome varied terrain, and rocking dedicated groomers I was able to be better prepared for this Birkie, than others in the past. I'm going to keep skiing the Ashwabay xc trails the remainder of the season and train here for the 2022 Birkie next winter. Thank you Steve and crew! Ski on.

Thursday morning we found 1/2 to 1 inch of new "Superior Lake Effect” snow. All the skate trails were freshly groomed and promise to be perfect for skiing today. The classic tracks were all reset Wednesday and look to be great shape today with a few exceptions in evergreen thickets and in the “Sunny” spots. Conditions are excellent with 12-18 inch base.
