Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Skied noon to 2:00 pm, parked at the end of the neighborhood road (city had blocked entrance road to parking lot). As of noon I was able to ski in on the road, 90 minutes later going back to my car saw a few melt holes. Trails were mushy, but great work out. I might try it again tomorrow!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
I skied classic from the Hixon Forest side. The road is blocked down by the neighborhood, but there is a classic track up the dirt road. Lots of footprints in the skate deck but good coverage out to the woods. The golf course is wind swept and bare in spots. Was groomed but the wind is trying its hardest to undo that. No discernible classic track once I got to the groomed sections.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Lots of grass and barely a trail in existence out on the Golf Course. However, up into the woods there is a trail with snow coverage. There are some areas along tree lines and in hollows, too, where the wind has deposited snow. Just gotta be creative, positive, and resourceful. It was so good, then so quickly went to miserable. For the diehards, you can ski a short loop on real snow.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Fair to poor conditions. Packed trails are very thin, classic tracks are few or none. Despite the cold, snow seems to be evaporating with the bright sunshine, especially south facing slopes. I started from the Bluff Pass Rd. parking lot, it might have been better to start from Bliss Road. A very thin trail was best in the valley east and along the railroad tracks. Upper trails might be better, but I didn't go there.

Afternoon
Observation
[ Trails Open: All ]
I could see that trails were groomed on the golf course Thursday. We have had about three inches of snow over the last few days. Watch out for rocks in places, asphalt out on the golf course.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Rock skis ]
XC skied Sunday and it was doable. Even a little better in the woods. Improves the further you get away from the parking lot. Expect small tree debris breaking through. There is a slippery ice deck below in some spots. No grooming yet as of Sunday.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Skied the trails that were groomed Sunday night. Looks like spring skiing. Some areas had debris on them as usual in spring at Hixon. Too bad this thaw is in December. Some areas had clean snow. Trails firm with good edge control so still fun. Trail up road to upper golf course looks sketchy, but it is skiable. The ice sheet base has kept it that way. The higher up the valley the better the snow gets. Log trail is great.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
The upper golf course, and trails in the woods with exception of the main road that cuts up from the golf course have all been freshly groomed. The trails on the lower golf course haven't been groomed. You can park in the Hixon Forest parking lot, but I would suggest walking about 75 yards up the ski trail along the golf course before putting your skis on.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Most all of the Hixon Trails were groomed by volunteers this morning for skate. The trail sections on the upper golf course and in the woods have also had tracks reset. The classic tracks on main golf course are wind blow but skiable. The snow is clean, flat, and fast. Come to Hixon and enjoy the snow.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Such a great winter's start and great conditions at lower Hixon. Our awesome volunteer groomers have set corduroy and classic tracks that are great throughout. Recent warm and high moisture snow has set up wonderfully. It appears Fern trail is not groomed, but I saw that classic skiers have set forth down that trail blazing their own tracks. Thanks groomers... We love you all!
