2020-2021 season

Between fair and poor conditions with about 1 inch of new snow on a variable base. By variable, I mean from zero to 24 inches on the manmade snow loops. Areas with the manmade base are icy and rutted. Other areas have exposed mulch. Those who were striding appeared to fair better than those who were skating (like me). But... still skiable on a calm, comfortable day that may be the last of the season. A big thank you to Park staff and the Friends volunteer snowmakers and groomers for an epic ski season at Lapham Peak! Could not have come at a better time.

There must be something good about the manmade snow loops because all the diehards out yesterday were back again today. Some even said they liked it better today. Soft, slushy, but flat (not rutted) skate surface. Several areas of dirty snow. Tracks are still okay, but are soft and deteriorated.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Just finished grooming the man made loop with the PB. Tilled the skate deck and set new tracks through out. Even set new tracks on Jerry’s hill. Conditions are pretty good considering temps. Dirt is starting to collect on the trail in areas.

Good spring skiing conditions on the manmade snow loops. Fresh grooming with the PB provided a mostly soft corn snow surface with no ice. Some slushy spots, and a few small troublesome areas of dirty snow. Trails in the woods are more variable but still okay. New single track provided nice striding conditions, but the soft edges break down easily. Plenty of good base that will be around for a while Thank you, Mark, for the grooming.

More great spring skiing today on the manmade snow loops. Lower trails, in the sun, were fantastic - fast corn snow on a firm, but not icy, base. Woods trails are more variable, with some dirty spots, some hard packed icy spots, and some slush. Many skiers, especially kids, were enjoying the fun. Lots of bare arms and shoulders, a few shorts, and one skier in a dress shirt and tie to celebrate the beautiful spring weather. Thank you, Park staff, for keeping the grooming going.

Spring skiing at its finest on the manmade snow loops this morning. Initially fast, but transitioning to softer and slower. A couple of dirty spots are the slowest/slushiest. Key is to hit the window between icy and slushy. Tracks are icy but holding up fairly well. Should be more of the same tomorrow, but a little earlier.

Drove 1.5 hours to ski based on previous days reports. Some parts of man made loop was like boiler plate and not safe for the beginner skiers.

Trails are not groomed as of 8:00 AM. The man made looks to have been groomed yesterday, but now it’s rutted and pretty icy. There’s a good base on these trails throughout, so it’s a bit confusing why they’ve given up on the outer trail system. Seems like the other trail systems groom in the morning for spring skiing.

Skated the man-made loop around 8am and conditions were icy and difficult for a beginner. There appeared to be a decent amount of base left, and very little debris that was easily avoidable.
