Overnight we received about one inch of snow coverage. However, it was not quite enough to begin grooming ski trails.

The warm weather has melted nearly all snow on the trails over the last week. At this time, trails are closed to skiing.

Observation Scheduling
[ Trails: Closed, Rock skis ]
Due to forecast we are temporarily closing the ski trails at Greenbush and Zillmer trails to preserve the trail base until temperatures return to freezing conditions. If possible, please avoid using the trails. A friendly reminder to all that within the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Northern Unit there is no hiking allowed on trails that are groomed for skiing regardless of whether skiers are present.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
All trails have been groomed. Tracks have been set around the Brown loop and the outer Red loop. Unfortunately, due to equipment failures I was unable to set tracks on the Green or Yellow Trails. As always please use caution when using the trails and watch for debris / other skiers. While we did get a fair bit of snow this past week there are still some thin areas where the ground can be seen, especially under dense tree coverage and on some portions of the outer yellow trail. Grooming plans: Based on forecast, we are unlikely to be out grooming much over the next week.

Thank you groomers for getting these trails in great shape! Bare spots in certain areas that are completely avoidable. I used my good skis. Track had been laid on portions of the trails. Perhaps more signage is needed at trailheads as I told several groups of people over the last couple days that hiking is not allowed on groomed trails.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Lots of skiers out there enjoying the early season snow fall. There is more than adequate snow coverage and depth on all the trails that were groomed. Thank you groomers for "paving the way" for a Pre-Christmas ski.

Did all the trails that were groomed. A few rocks on the back stretch of yellow. Overall not bad. Thank you groomers!

I did the outer most loop with my good skis. There is definitely snow coverage there. I didn't see any bare spots out there.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Brown, Red and Green trails were rolled, part of yellow was rolled. Equipment issues caused us to have to stop. Grooming plans: We will attempt to groom Sunday or Monday when equipment is back up and running.

Skiing on this trail today brought me much joy - the conditions were ideal for traditional skiing. It was not sticky nor icy, and there was full snow coverage, even in the wooded areas typically susceptible to exposed tree roots or rocks. The trails were fully groomed, although a track had not been set. The trails were absolutely gorgeous!
