2019-2020 season

36F. Sunny. The tracks are mostly in really good shape. In some places it still skis and looks like mid-winter. Between when I started and when I stopped the snow became much softer in the sun. The skins (fur!) started getting waterlogged. I shoveled in the one bare spot by the J intersection. I think the tracks should stay in good shape for a while yet.

38F, breezy, full sun. Conditions were everything from cold, fresh snow in hard tracks to smushy sidewalls to bare spots. It was really nice skiing. With some shoveling in specific spots and more snow, Hartley could be perfect throughout the entire system. I was skiing on skins.

Trail conditions are variable, from good tracks on higher trails to ice, slush and debris in low areas. I used skin skis which performed well on the mostly glazed tracks. Looks to be recently groomed. I had a good ski though and enjoyed a bit of sunshine!

Observation
I went to the base of Hartley to check out the conditions. If the city had not groomed, the tracks might have melted out and made a skate-skiable surface. However, the groomer had been in quite recently because the tracks looked very nice! As long as you had something of extreme durability on for kick wax (or some other alternative), you could have a very nice classic ski here. It would definitely be fast, though.

The trails were beautiful and the fastest I remember. Everything was well groomed. It was a bit icy when I started at 8:30 am. By 10, the sun was just beginning to soften some parts of the trails.

My wife came home this morning and ordered me out on the trails. She had just seen the groomer out working. Trails were close to excellent condition, with only the tiniest bits of glazing and a minuscule bit of very thin slush just above the Nature Center. Virtually zero debris. Glide was no problem, but I needed to add another layer of grip wax after starting out. Saw just two other skiers - that will undoubtedly change at an exponential rate as word spreads.

Looked to be recently groomed, tracks were deep on most of the trail with a few short sections washed out. There was quite a bit of debris in the tracks especially in the sections of trail with pine trees near by. There was also was also a section or two that the groomer pulled up some dirt and rocks.

Tracks solid throughout with little to no washout. Quite a bit of debris on the outer loop, significantly less so on the inner. Probably best to use skins or waxless skis until it is groomed again.

Super fresh grooming at Hartley just after noon on Saturday. We have been spoiled by the mild winter -- 17 F and 10 mph breeze felt a little nippy, but it yielded maybe the fastest conditions I have experienced at Hartley this year. Yet the fresh grooming, incorporating reconstituted snow and the 2 or 3 inches of fluff from yesterday, gave great control and just plain Swix blue gave GREAT kick. What a gem this trail system is, less than a mile from my house!

Amazing, crisp, morning at Hartley! Absolute bombproof tracks and really nice glide. Skins had tenacious grip this morning. I might have slipped twice, maybe. Very recent grooming did a great job! Easy to snow plow on the big hill if you have to. Plus that bright glowing orb is in the sky again.
