2022-2023 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 40    Month: Apr | Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
My final ski in at Larson Lake was not too bad. Firm deck from the warm temps and at 32 degrees this morning just enough softness to get a nice edge with the ski. Hope you all enjoyed the ski season!

Morning
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Started classic skiing. Icy in sunny areas, but bigger concern was the deep canyons in areas of the tracks due to warm spring conditions due to weight of afternoon skiers compressing the track deeper. Switched to skate skis since the skate deck was very firm, fast and blemish free.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Four inches of new snow. All trails open and regroomed. Tracks set on interior segments. Made two passes on skate lanes and set track on outer loop. Likely the final grooming of the season.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Dan and I skied 3 loops at Larson. It was 10 degrees when finished at dusk. We were first on the trail following the storm Thursday and groomer Friday. Tracks were well set throughout the park. Nary a leaf on them. It was a bit slow on the first round with with new snow conditions and a few areas where the tracks had drifted in mostly on the West side hilltops. It got faster with each round as the tracks firmed up and the wind let up towards dusk. With lower overnight winds, the tracks should remain more open and faster today. Great job BNSC and hats off to expert groomer. Larson Lake and Wolf Lake trails have been exceptionally well maintained all year.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails open and groomed. Rolled all trails first, then pulled the ginzu groomer. Tracks set on all interior segments. Made two passes on skate lanes to not have a ridge in the middle, then set track on outer loop. Hoping the wind dies down a bit.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Mid-March weather and mid-January ski conditions. It doesn't get much better than that. Recent snowfall and subsequent grooming were holding up very well as of late Tuesday afternoon. Classic tracks were solid; skate lane looked a little soft in a couple places, but mostly quite good. The ungroomed segments appeared to be nearly impassable, showing that the recent grooming was not merely helpful; it was essential.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Since skate lanes were only rolled on Sunday, I took 7 ft ginzu groomer and made one pass on skate lane and another pass setting a new track since there was windbliwn snow. Only the outer loop and middle cut a cross are groomed.

11 inches of new snow. Rolled skate lanes with 5 ft roller and made three passes. Grabbed 7 ft wide ginzu groomer and found the base to be too soft to get up hills with track setter up. Lowered track setter and set tracks on outer loop and middle cut a cross trail. Best to classic ski.

A series of light snows during the week. Regroomed all stake lanes and set new classic track on side of skate lanes. Did not groom interior classic segments awaiting additional snowfall.
