Ranger Mike got to the Park at 5 a.m. and had all trails groomed well before I arrived at 9:30. Conditions were fantastic! There was a skier doing their virtual Birkie too. There is significant base; hopefully enough to survive any warmup!

I'm being a little generous; it's not good everywhere but no risk to good skis. It could really use a re-grooming as some areas need more packing. The biggest issue is that hikers left deep heel prints from walking/running on almost all of the skate trails. This is the worst I've seen at Nelson and I'm there often. These deep footprints weren't there just yesterday. Frustrating! The classic track remains very good.

Skied woodland trail, it was well groomed and made for a good first ski of the season. Was a little challenging at spots with some uphill climbs but they are short and followed by short downhill slopes as well.

Classic skied Redtail Hawk and Woodland trails, and skated and strided the Morningside Trail Saturday morning while grooming was in progress. After the high winds of Friday, it made sense to wait to groom Saturday morning, because many of the trails are in open areas. The grooming was excellent-thank you! Tracks were faster than expected, despite the new snow and cold weather, and it was a fun morning at the park for Joanie and I.

I saw Mike out grooming just now. Conditions should be great as the day goes on! Kudos to Mike for his great work all throughout the park including his awesome grooming and the great signage he has posted among other positive things he is doing for the park!

Conditions here are the best they've been in a couple years thanks to the repeated snows over several weeks with no meltdown. Even the hills parallel to Hwy. M (which often is threadbare due to drifting) have great, deep coverage. Kudos to groomer/Ranger Mike too! There are some heel imprints from a jogger/hiker on some trails but not enough to ruin your fun.

The groomer had been out after our 6" of snow on Saturday night. The snow was a bit wet so the track was deep and compacted. The track was a minor bit slow where the snow was still powdery but lovely and nice. On the Morningside Trail which is the most northerly trail, the snow had softened the surface and it was minorly wet and soft. Ski this area soon as when the temps rise it'll be thin. The trails in the woods and the Oak Savanna and Red Tail were beautiful and well covered. I skied with grip tape and using my waxless skis and had good luck on both grip and glide (pretty good glide). I stepped out of the track and skated a bit and the skate deck was a bit soft but I got very good kick. All-in-all a beautiful day of skiing and the place was very busy. Go while the snow is good! Another skier and I verbally reprimanded two hikers walking right down the middle a trail.

Freshly groomed when I arrived this morning. No walkers yet at that time. Best conditions of the season (like everywhere else in Southern WI, I would assume, after the great snowfall Monday night). Skate lane looked great too.

I thought that with the little snow we got last night we might be able to cover/fill the track. Very limited luck. Conditions were pretty icy and due to a stiff breeze, there was more than a fair amount of detritus in the trail/track. The skate deck was very firm and fast but a little too firm for good control. Downhills were fast but still just enough soft snow to get an edge for slowing. Get out while you can. Classic skiers should watch closely for exposed asphalt on the connector trail especially near the boat ramp entrance. B skis may be in order.

I classic skied on the Morningside Trail. Tracks were bare in places and icy. The Oak Savannah Trail was also icy but not as bare in as many places.
