Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Cassian was ripped up and tracked today.  Upon inspection there are trail segments that look like freshly groomed snow, but in other locations it is fractured. The weekend's meltdown left our groomer with some poor snow to work with. Despite this the trail is very skiable.

Track was firm but a little soft because it was 39 degrees. There was debris but skiable. If you only have one pair of skis go for it.

Skied full length of the trail north to south. Fully groomed and tracked. Take your good skis. Excellent classic ski conditions! Thanks Oneida County!

I'll try to be objective, but the trail was pretty disappointing. I skied north from County K, and there were no tracks set. I turned around at the second road crossing, at Timber Lake Road, so perhaps there are tracks north of there, but not to the south. It seems like the trail was recently rolled, but not tracked. The trail is plenty flat, despite going through some marshy areas, to be track-able, so perhaps there's a reason for no tracks. Plenty firm, though you want to stick to the middle as my poles went through along the edges.

The 6+ inches of snow we got on Friday/Saturday was rolled and tracked today. The new tracks should frim up nicely with the cold evening temperatures for skiing.

Not groomed as of noon Sunday. I did ski the trail about 5k north without the luxury of set tracks, sort of an old school ski, very fun actually. The trail maintenance crew did an awesome job fixing up the low marshy area.

At least two snow days without grooming. Broke trail through 2+ inches of snow. Good base; sloppy tracks. Grateful to past DNR Forester Tim Mulhern for enforcing the planting of red pine along trail to break the wind.

We have solved the two water issues that have popped up this winter and prevented us from grooming. Make sure you heed the warning about the northernmost water hazard. It is at the bottom of two converging downhills. Both descents are gradual, but if you are not careful, you could get wet. Just pay attention to what you are doing. New tracks were installed this morning. They should set up nicely with falling temperatures.

Was able to ski out about 2.25 miles until I hit water across the trail. Decided to turn back as there was no track. Course was groomed without a track. Ran into groomers on my way back. Still no track and the deck was very soft after the groomer went by.

Skied the entire trail today, and was thrilled to find a fast track and near-perfect conditions this early in the season. Just watch out for a couple unfrozen areas, a few places where dirt was kicked up, and the many oak leaves typical of the north section, and you can probably use your best pair of skis.
