Trail Reports

2022-2023 season
Reports 1 to 7 of 7    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Saturday, March 4, 2023
Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied blue and green loops. Earlier it was fast skiing, as day warmed up got soft and slowed down. One bare spot on orange, about three on green otherwise decent conditions. On both green and blue loops where signed for both skate and classic skiing was actually double tracked for classic, not sure why.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All loops have been groomed. The purple loop is the only skating loop available at this time. The skate deck was leveled and stride tracks set this morning. All trails seem to be in good skiing condition. The warmer daytime temps with below freezing temps at night make for fast conditions.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Skied purple loop, has not been groomed/tracked. We followed tracks from previous skier. Snow was deep and slow going but view at Svens Bluff was worth it.

Skied Candlelight event, yellow trail only open. Exposed rocks and natural debris, still great to be out. Was told that other trails not tracked/not enough snow.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
We are in Door County and wanted to get out and do a little skiing. We tried the Yellow and Orange loops at Peninsula as they were rated as 'fair'and 'good'on the WDNR trail report. The entry looked pretty good - groomed with two sets of tracks. Thin, icy snow on most of the trail, with lots of debris and rocks poking through in spots. A few stretches were okay. All and all, pretty poor conditions. Even the slight downhills were dangerous as skis got caught in debris. Several falls between the two of us.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Classical skied from Lot 5 in the morning. The tracks are in very poor shape in most areas with dirt, rocks and branches poking thru the snow in many areas. Many of the ski trails were not groomed and they were actually the best to ski. I would not bother skiing there again until we get more snow.
