Firsthand: Classic

The prairie trails were fair to good. Grass and rocks are showing on the classic tracks. Easy to get around by moving to the skate lane. Campground trails are best skied in the skate lanes. Skiing was very enjoyable.

Lake K is back in business! Freshly groomed from the last couple days. I can only vouch for the camping loop trails and the prairie as that's what I skied today. Thin but consistent base, with a few sections where grass is peeking through and some branch debris but nothing obnoxious to navigate. On the camping loops there was no pavement peeking through, but I could feel my pole ferrules making contact. Nonetheless a good ski overall. I did not stride, but took a hard look at classic tracks and those seem very skiable and consistent. Go get it everyone!

Skied the prairie loop and campground loops several times. Very good conditions all around. Full coverage, even on the newer campground trail. Kudos to the groomer. Enjoy it while it's here. Was sad to see someone walking two large dogs on the trail as I was pulling away.

Trails groomed Wednesday. Expect icy conditions due to previous wet snow and current frigid temperatures.

Grooming

Campground and prairie trail was groomed this afternoon. Track was set as well. A little soft. Also, the downhill on the new loop in the campground is still thin. Grooming plans: The remaining trails will be groomed tomorrow.

Prairie loop is fast and fun! Camping area loops are also great except the downhill section of the outermost loop (the newest camping area added several years ago). The initial downhill there is very icy and the snow cover thin. I'd avoid that. The other "inner" trails of the campground are great.

Prairie, lake hill and campground loops were decent. Down and up had some bare pavement in the classic tracks.

The Prairie Trail was is great shape for early season classic but the skate deck was soft and the corduroy was covered by the light snow last night. The blue portion which branches off and parallels the road was a bit beat up and melted soft on areas that ran over asphalt. The green trail through the campground was ok but poling into asphalt can be tough. The green trail through the oak woods had a bit more detritus and no real skate deck. For the first time in years we have very skiable snow in early December. Go!

Things are good at LKSP! I skied the camping and Prairie loops ... about 12K total. Skate deck is well groomed, though the snow needs some more time to settle and become completely firm. Best start to a ski season ever! Not a slog at all. I did not classic but the tracks look solid for traditional skiers. I cannot vouch for the trails farther to the east as I did not venture beyond the camping and prairie loops. Happy skiing!
