Notes

Brunet Island's trails pass through an otherwise undeveloped section of the park. The terrain is rolling with plenty of hills but none very large. Skiers pass through a mix of hardwood and evergreen forest, and ski a ridge within sight of the Fisher River.

The Nordic trail was groomed Friday and the new snow groomed up great. The trail is in excellent condition for the weekend.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed both trails this afternoon. The Nordic Trail turned out excellent, probably as good as we can get it with our equipment. The track on the Candlelight Loop is great also, but there is still some debris from earlier storms. Overall I'd call the conditions there very good, and you should still be ok with your good skis.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Lovely, rolling classic-only, nicely groomed trails thru hardwood forest. New 1" of snow made good glide & climbs. Nice ski break for the long drive between southern and northern WI. On Thursday (myself) and again on Friday (with friends) skied big loop (3.4 mi), though ski map lists 4.3 miles of trails. The trails are on the east side (2,200 acres) of the Fisher River, not the island itself (169 acres), also included in the park. Pronunciation: brew-NAY.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Got the Nordic trail groomed this afternoon. It's in very good condition. There is some debris (in the form of small sticks and leaves) and some uneven spots in the tracks due to catching debris with the tracksetter and some patches we tore up removing trees from the storm which didn't fully smooth out. I listed B skis due to debris, but there is no danger of catching rock or soil, and most of the track is great. The Candlelight loop still needs to be cleared of trees, so it likely won't be groomed until next week.
