Observation Scheduling
[ Trails: Closed, Bare ground ]
WinMan Trails are now closed for the season. The freeze/thaw cycle has been creating erratic and icy conditions. In places, the unseasonably warm temperatures are beginning to expose dirt. Thank you for a great winter. We can't wait until next winter!

Afternoon
Grooming Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
With 1.5" of rain overnight, the trails are very water-logged with standing water in a couple of places. We attempted to groom, but with the warm temps and saturated snow we were doing more damage than good. A couple of skiers report that the trails are still ski-able, and completely snow covered. The temps will drop to the low teens tonight, so we will be heading out to groom (perhaps one last time) tomorrow morning.

Observation
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We still have a good base, and the trails have been holding up very well. But, spring conditions prevail with the best skiing being as early in the morning as possible.

Excellent spring conditions. I haven’t been to these trails since 1980, when it was a lesser-used local classic trail. What a change in 40 years! Well-maintained, wide trails on easy terrain. Ski, snowshoe, and fat bike trails getting good use. Beautiful chalet, good signage, good grooming. Well done, WinMan!

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Our groomers went out Thursday night to reset the tracks and touch up the skate decks. We have definitely entered the Spring “thaw/groom/freeze/“ cycle so expect trails to be crispy and fast in the mornings with soft and slow snow conditions in the afternoon.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All of the virtual Birkie loops, skate decks and classic tracks were groomed last night. And the trails are skiing crisp and fast this morning. It was very warm yesterday afternoon, and the snow was practically slush. As a result, some of the classic tracks might be glazed this morning. We’re expecting warm temps today again, but the cloud cover should help keep the snow from getting too warm.

Observation Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Our groomers have been working hard all week to keep the trails in shape. Early skiers this morning report that the trails are in great condition. We do recommend getting out early. Even thought the weather is going to be beautiful, with high 30's forecasted for the afternoon, the trails are bound to get a little sticky! That has been the trend for the last couple of days. Skiers report that the trails are hard and fast in the morning, but they start to slow down a bit as the day warms up through the afternoon. Grooming plans: We will be grooming tonight, and temperatures tomorrow morning will start out in the 20's and work their way up to the low 40's by around 2pm. Congratulation and good luck to all the Birkie skiers - wherever they may be skiing!

Firsthand: Freestyle Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Our groomers went out in the pre-dawn hours to take advantage of the fresh snow we got Sunday night. The new snow had a little bit of moisture in it, and packed up nicely. At 9:30, I went for a short skate ski to test the trail and it had firmed up nicely. Everything looks great!

Wide trails groomed for skate and classic. Freshly groomed firm skate deck. Good edge and fast skiing. Fresh corduroy. The course was good for every level of skier.

Tracks were reset, and some of the skate deck was touched up on Wednesday morning. There was a very slight dusting of snow last night. I'm not a super fast skier, but it didn't seem to slow me down. Next scheduled grooming Thursday night, Feb 18.
