Notes

Trails are on the golf course. Some nice hills but most of the course is pretty exposed. There is one back leg that is quite shaded and seems to hold snow long after the rest of the course loses it. Rentals at the chalet.

Night
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
It was cold but with no wind it was enjoyable (well to be honest there was some wind, I had a burrito for dinner). The downhill slope kept there lights on till 8:40 pm. Was able to get really good kick in the classic tracks.

The skate deck was just right. I did not notice a single icy spot. The classic tracks looked okay too, though I didn't try them. Since most of my ski was after dark I went prepared with a headlamp, but didn't need it because lights were on at the downhill slope for downhill classes. Even the back bowl was bright enough to ski safely.

Conditions were good to very good for skating; poor to fair for classic. Trails had not been groomed since last night's snow. Thus, it was skier packed and tracked. Generally, it skated fine except at the bottom of some hills where a crown of snow existed between the two tracks thus making it hazardous to snow plow to slow down. It was also mildly rutted in softer sections. Classic track was inconsistent. I used FastWax Red LF.

Ski conditions were good. Fast thanks to the dip in temperatures. Trail had not yet been groomed however easy to skate and the classical tracks were very visible.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Great conditions. The new snow was a little soft and slow but the base was flat and firm and even so it felt faster than it was. Track was shallow and fast. I skied around noon, trails were just groomed.

No leaves, no ice, well groomed, temps in the 20's! Very nice classic skiing this morning. Small loop portion of the trail near Lexington not groomed but everything else is.

Easier backside loop has been skied on a bunch but very doable, still some nice corduroy on the rigorous part of the loop. Some really icy spots, especially at the bases of hills and on the insides of turns so use caution. Can definitely get away with your best skis.

Very icy, not sure when it was groomed last, although it was pretty well covered. The loop on the east end by Larpenteur is filling with water and frozen solid so we bypassed that. Ended up skiing on the downhill area practicing going up and down hills since that was nicely groomed and very skiable.

The skate deck is groomed, but icy. The classic track is set, but icy. Red or klister for kick wax. Snow on the perpetual glacier is great, as always.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Trail was groomed prior to us getting there at 12:30, but it was slick and a bit soggy in the low lying areas. For my own safety, I chose to opt out of the steep downhill U-turns after I saw a couple other people fall at the bottom. The last 1k (on the back side of the bridge) was the best for actually being able to pick up some speed and get a rhythm going. I’ll be waiting until we get some more snow to attempt the slippery parts again.
