New Reports Report Requests

Notes

Trails are on the golf course. Some nice hills but most of the course is pretty exposed. There is one back leg that is quite shaded and seems to hold snow long after the rest of the course loses it. Rentals at the chalet.

Trails have been rolled. Conditions are not perfect but the final groom will be done after the holiday. Get out there and enjoy it. No classic tracks yet.

Fresh snow had been rolled, but it was still light and fluffy with 2 or 3 inches above the base. Some icy patches in low spots where recent rain had soaked the snow. Still, it was pretty fast and lots of fun.

Classic skied at Como this afternoon. The skate deck had been rolled but no machined classic tracks, however an informal classic track on the right edge of the skate deck was present most of the way but sometimes breaking down. The skier-made trail on the Iceberg was the strongest, a few icy spots especially at hill bottoms and low-lying places where there had been puddles. Overall, a nice ski with good but not perfect classic skiing.

Excellent conditions this evening at Como. Just a couple of icy spots on low ground by the ponds. Nicely groomed with a wide skate deck. Hard to believe a few inches of snow could repair damage done from the heat and rain.

Rolled. A bit of ice. Lovely mid morning conditions. No bare spots. Fine for good skis. No tracks for classic.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails: Closed, Rock skis ]
Trails are closed until we get more snow to groom. Right now we only have ice or bare ground to work with. Please visit a man made loop until we can reestablish a trail. Trying to ski at Como would be unsafe.

I was on my way out the door to Theo Wirth when I saw the report that Como had been groomed and presented a "positive experience". It's closer to home, so although still skeptical, Como is where I went. I did not regret it. I found the best snow on the north side where, after you get past the reroute to avoid the growing pond near Lexington, conditions were surprisingly good all of the way to the steep downhill coming off the back bowl. I chose to walk down that hill, because of a large ice patch and bare spot at the bottom of the hill, but I saw others negotiate it successfully, not all of whom were pros. The other problem spot was the side-hill just beyond the bridge, which was sheer ice. I walked around that too, though others were managing it fine. To avoid having to take off my skis twice per 5k loop, I decided to make my own shorter loop just on the northern side, by cutting back to the beginning just below the clubhouse. A hearty thanks to the groomers for giving us another wonderful day at Como, including to those who shoveled snow at the crest of the steep downhill and under the bridge, and also for posting it on SkinnySki so we'd know to go there.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Early report from one of our hardworking groomers: Como trails groomed decent. Classic track definitely has diminished in areas. Skate deck slightly gravely in consistency. 15 fairway not recommended for skiing, I rerouted avoiding this area completely. There are areas of the trail that have ice patches. Overall, still skiable and a positive experience considering the weather.

Suspicious of conditions but the trails turned out to be excellent with just a few tricky spots. Groomer was out but broken down at the bottom of the steep downhill for our first lap. We unstrapped the skis and walked down, past the groomer, which was being worked on. Icy spots encountered by the pond near Lexington and along the Lexington climb. The worst ice is getting out of the tunnel, but even that is manageable. Other than that, the trail is in good to excellent shape. I used my good skis with no concerns. Classic tracks looked shallow and icy.
