Notes

Trails are on the golf course. Some nice hills but most of the course is pretty exposed. There is one back leg that is quite shaded and seems to hold snow long after the rest of the course loses it. Rentals at the chalet.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
At 3:15 the classic tracks were set with much of the track filled with blown snow. On the few segments that were clear, the track was well set and quick. Thanks groomer! The freesyle deck looked to be in great shape! High school groups were arriving and setting up.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
February sun, fresh snow, and a nicely groomed classic track made for great conditions for skiing. Bluebirds and robins out numbered the skiers this morning shortly before noon.

Como offers a wide, firm skate lane with full coverage and little ice. Easy to get an edge with last night's dusting of snow. Classic tracks were full of wind-blown snow, but the groomer appeared to be starting work as I left at 630am and ought to leave a nice track for your sunny afternoon.

Firsthand: Classic

Two hat morning. Windblown track that was rolled earlier. Classic track icy in spots with microparticle snow in others. Swix Polar gave decent kick. Skate lane barely holding snow, but skiable with decent edges. Dress warm and enjoy the sun. Two others out and the downhill area dotted with intrepid gravity fed skiers.

Both classic and skate trails were groomed. Some drifting. Blue kick wax (V30) was too soft. Try green kick wax (V20).

Tried to get out this evening after the snow came. The rain last night did a number and there was a lot of ice (really hard snow?), The wind was bitter and we only made a short loop before heading back home to warm up near the fire at home. With all the blowing wind, you couldn't see any of the trails that had been groomed earlier in the week. Definitely need to wait for the groomers to do some magic after the weather dies down.

Good coverage throughout still. Got to Como at 2:30. The skate deck was firm and smooth, but it was still possible to get an edge. My partner did classic and said that tracks were also pretty good. High school teams showed up at 3:30, but it never felt too crowded.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
I skated at Como this morning, and the trail was mostly in good shape. There are a couple of spots near the beginning of the course with exposed ground and a few patches of dirty snow, but most of the coverage was excellent. There was no ice at the bottoms of the hills, and I didn't encounter any cart paths.

The parking lot was nearly full when I arrived around 4:30, and very icy, which made parking very difficult (thanks to those that helped me!). The skiing, on the other hand, was about as good as it gets for skating, in spite of heavy use. There was even a little corduroy still at the sides. Lights were on for the downhill slopes, including in the back bowl, and there was a floodlight set up that lit up the entire south section by the zoo, so skiing after dark was no problem, at least not up until 7p.m. I enjoyed watching the moon rise a little higher each time I climbed out of the back bowl. Too bad it didn't stay, but maybe it couldn't stand the competition from the floodlight.

Made it out for a nice lunchtime ski. The conditions today were great to go along with the nice weather. The base was firm and groomed. Have fun!
