Notes

Trails are on the golf course. Some nice hills but most of the course is pretty exposed. There is one back leg that is quite shaded and seems to hold snow long after the rest of the course loses it. Rentals at the chalet.

2020-2021 season

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails were in okay conditions. Some sections of the classic tracks have been worn away by melting snow and sledders crossing the tracks. Overall it was a great to be outdoors skiing!

Observation
[ Trails Open: All ]
I've been sidelined by a skiing injury through an excellent week for skiing throughout the metro area, and thus was anxious to know whether the natural snow courses in my neighborhood are likely to still be good when I'm ready to go back in a couple of days (cross my fingers). I ran over to Como Golf Course to see that there is still good coverage for skate at Como, but that it is extremely hard packed and that additional grooming is not likely until there is more snow. Don't want to risk another fall, so I'll probably have to go elsewhere.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Caught the sunset tonight. Lots of people came through the trails; most of the skate deck looks great but the classic tracks are a bit rough in spots (blades of grass and some ice). All the classic tracks are still cut by skis but they work pretty well. Still a great time out there. We could use some colder conditions and some fresh snow.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Como has been packed with skiers over this holiday weekend and has held up remarkambly well with all the usage without much of a snow base. There is approximately 2-3 inches of snow for skate skiing on the entire course (some grass patches, and dirt patches under the stone bridge). Grooming plans: The course will most likely not be rolled, groomed, or machine classic tracks set until more snow falls and we have a deeper base to work with. The classic tracks set by skiers appear passable and in moderately good condition. Fingers crossed for more snow and colder temperatures. The trail is back to 4.8km in length.
The front downhill is looking marvelous and was busy this past weekend. The back downhill still requires more snowmaking, but should be up and running by Thursday of this week.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Great sunny morning! The skate deck was fast and well skied in. Not too rough. Yes, some grass pokes out, but most of the trail was great. I left at 11:45 and the snow is warming up and starting to get soft. Get out while it's still gorgeous! And I looked at classic track: well skied and appeared fast. Many people in the tracks.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
A gorgeous morning for an easy skate. The skate deck is nice and wide in most places, the grooming after the snow last week is well skied-in - a little on the rough side, but as good as it will get until we get more snow, and mostly very pleasant. The trail is 4.8km; the high loop around the 2nd fairway is back - thin on the west side, but ski-able; the long accent to 14T was shifted to its past, and better location; under the stone bridge is rough, with lots of dirt on the south side and deep tread tracks.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
All trails seem to be open. Skate deck is a bit soft but very skate-able. Some bare grass sticking out but rocks do not seem to be in the mix. No classic tracks set yet but some tracks have been skied in. Good rock ski conditions.

Mostly full coverage, but some ground peaking through at grade transitions. Groomed this morning. Soft, needs to set-up.

Dramatically better skate deck than a few days ago. Classic tracks are getting skied in. The usual stone grind opportunity is available during the right curving downhill between the trees. Recommend going right of the planter box to keep the bases. With another couple inches, this tough area should be buried. Was nice to see Como groomed again as there are a large amount of St Paul people use it regularly.

Decent coverage in most places with some grass poking through in a few spots. Not bad for skating, although pretty soft and difficult to follow some parts of the trail.
