Trail Detail
Notes
A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.Trail Reports

First classic skied the perimeter trails (Sugar Bush, Jolly Long, Oppdahl, Northern lights Deer Path), the single track trails were recently groomed, but not firm, so there was a lot of sinking as we strided. Still beautiful. Tracks were firmer on the combined classic/skate trails. Skate trails that had been recently groomed were firm. The rest were soft.

Classic skied 32 km this morning. Absolutely gorgeous conditions and spectacular weather! Classic tracks were firm and deep, glide was awesome, kick good with skins. Skate deck was firm with some give. Felt amazing! Thank you groomers! And thank you for your consistent grooming all season! My Classic Birkie this year was 3:56. My fastest by almost 20 minutes. I was able to do that because you put in hard work grooming and gave 35-40 km of trail options with a multitude of terrain and hills. I know I can improve. Next year I'm buying a season pass here again and working on a 3:30 Birkie! Have a good spring.

Finished up grooming the trails this morning. Fresh tracks were laid on DeerPath. Skate lanes and intersections were cleaned up on Abbey Road, lower Anchor and Lower Seagull. New volunteer groomer was training on snow cat and did a fantastic job but be cautious of areas where there could be a little wobble in the classic tracks.

Packed, dragged, Ginzued and took out snow cat this morning through afternoon. Classic only trails are nearly complete with the back segment of DeerPath after the Buzz and Blackbear left to set tracks on. All the skate combo trails are groomed and tracked. Conditions started out today with light fluffy snow. It started to settle and compact after lunch most of the skate trails are wide and flat. Be aware some of the connectors did not get. Skate decks on Abbey Road, Northern Lights, The Buzz, Seagull and Anchor segments will be the most firm.

Fresh 8-10" of snow up at Ashwabay this morning when groomers went out. All the trails were double flat dragged and tracks were set on Abbey Road, Seagull Skate, Skid Road, Jolly Long, Northern Lights and Sugarbush. Temps got too soft to finish the classic trails.

Thursday Mt Ashwabay had 8-12" of fresh, fluffy snow. Skate/Combo Trails were cleaned up everywhere with Harold, the snowcat, except for the section of Abbey Road between the tin shed and the cabin. That area was done with Hi Ho 4 Runner and again with BooBoo BearCat Snowmobile and could be a little softer. Tracks were also reset on the Buzz with HiHo 4 Runner and they are smooth. The classic trails had to be double packed with the snowmobile and flat dragged before setting tracks and not all areas were completed. Groomed trails include: Deer Path, BlackBear, Sugarbush, All skate trails Conditions are excellent! the best skiing of the year.

Groomed Sunday. Excellent conditions Sunday and Monday with full depth, solid tracks and solid pole plants. Debris was not a major issue. Conditions were very fast and fairly glazed Sunday, and then a thin layer of fresh snow Monday slowed the tracks and made the downhills more manageable.

Conditions and weather are still amazing. I planned a shorter ski... whoops, I had to take advantage of the situation. Classic skied the same 40 km, 2 hours 24 minutes. Tracks are still solid, fast, reliable, with great kick and super glide. Skate deck is firm, with some give from the warming weather. You can't beat these conditions. I promise that's the last longer ski before the Birkie. Thank you groomers!

Skate trails were groomed on Abbey Road, Anchor, Seagull and the Buzz. Classic tracks still deep in most places.
