Trail Detail
Notes
A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.Trail Reports

Excellent conditions - we have hit mid-winter stride in Bayfield. Plenty of good snow, fairly firm base, maybe a little soft with the continuing snowfall. A touch of debris. But overall, excellent.

Steve groomed and tracked Telford, Anchor, Seagull, and Roller Coaster. The track turned out great and the skate will be as good as things get at these temps.

Conditions are near perfect, maybe a little soft for now. Fresh snow, fresh grooming, decent temps. With more snow and cold, looks like skiing here could be excellent for awhile.

If I got things straight, between Bill, Greg and myself, we packed, groomed and tracked: Telford, Anchor, Rollercoaster, Seagull, Summit, Sugarbush Classic, Sugarbush Dog Trail, Jolly Long, and Birch Hill.

Light dusting of fine lake effect snow really helped to freshen up the classic tracks and cover most of the debris (which only a few days ago was fairly copious in the tracks). The base is great, and overall excellent for classic skiing.

Dennis and Steve groomed all the skate lanes this morning. The classic tracks are still in very good shape from previous grooming so we left them as the current temps are not great for resetting them.

The trails are holding up well in the warm weather. It has been near freezing for almost a week. Despite that, the trails are not icy and there is some snow to work with on the hills. Groomers got to Jolly Long yesterday - it is in very good condition. There is quite of bit of debris on the trails - leaves, needles, etc., so i used no wax skis, which had plenty of grip. As noted in another report, they are soft.

Steve packed and tracked Raven, Deerpath, and Blackbear. I regroomed the skate trails of Anchor, Seagull, Rollercoaster, Telford and part of Summit, and Sugarbush Dog Trail. I would guess most of it is in good to very good condition.

Good conditions at Mt. Ashwabay. Some of the classic only trails like Opperdahls, Seagull, and Deer Path were groomed and tracked last night. The wider skate trails appeared to have been groomed earlier in the week. The deck was firm but pole plants kept punching through. Could use some cold weather to harden things up. Love these trails.

Skated much of Ashwabay, including the Jolly Long Loop on Tuesday. It was all groomed well, but as it was new cold snow, it was not a perfectly firm deck, and required more effort than ideal. But that is the only thing I can say that is less than excellent.
