Trail Reports

2021-2022 season
Reports 26 to 35 of 41    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Packed and tracked pretty well. Classic tracks looked set in almost all places. Very few thin spots; most hills has much better coverage compared to the last time I was out here. Rollercoaster still had some bare areas and a bit of debris, along with Snowdance/Cardiac climb. The Ruby downhill had thin spots, but seemed decent. Still plenty of places to use good skis if you avoid those areas.

Night
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Went to ski after a light snowfall. Trail was pretty well packed and tracked prior to the flurries, and the fresh powder only made for slightly slower skiing. Classic tracks were set. I used B skis because it was dark and I wasn't sure if I'd miss debris or thin spots due to the lack of light, but probably could have used good skis; just taking an extra precaution with low lighting and forgetting my headlamp anyway. It was a nice night ski, all in all!

Trail in very good condition for both skate and classic. Some oak leaves in track and on trail.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Fresh cord on all the trails today. Skating is moderately quick on the cold snow. No thin spots. Many of the classic tracks were re-set today and the ones that weren't are still firm, but like the swallows to Capistrano, the oak leaves have returned to Tower Ridge. There are some "lurch" sections.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Classic skied early afternoon and conditions were great! The usual oak leaves were present but were avoidable. Both the tracks and the skate deck were firm and fast. Coverage was a minor issue in maybe two places, at least on the trails I skied.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Conditions for both skating and classical at Tower Ridge just don't get any better than this. The skating is firm but not hard and only on one spot in the Skills Park area did I see any thinness to the skating deck. The classic tracks are deep, firm and clean, with both good kick (on my Twin Skins) and glide.

Morning
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
As of 11 this morning all the trails had at least one pass of the groomer and fresh cord. Many trails were groomed the entire width. Skating is mostly firm. Just a few hundred meters of new classic track were set on the far eastern trails. Old tracks from yesterday were still visible but have wind-blown snow in them.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
As of 3 pm all trails have been groomed for skating, one groomer wide in many places. The deck is firm cord in some spots, drifted over a little in others. Skis sink in about half their depth. Some classic tracks were set. In the protected areas the tracks are nice but compressible. In other spots the tracks are drifted over.

Nice smooth skate deck; base was packed and tracked. Saw very few thin spots in the segments I skied. Some debris down, but not terrible. Didn't do any of the big up and downs since it was dark. All in all, a very pleasant evening ski.

The classic tracks are mostly very good but starting to wash out on the trails near the chalet. Fast and firm with only occasional twigs or thin spots--no oak leaves yet! The skating deck is getting a bit hard but still very good overall.
