Very good early season skiing. Soft yet with all the new snow (10" at the Cable end of the trail). Good classic track on the snowmaking loop but that's as far as it goes right now. On the skating side they did some interesting things so bear with me.
I had expected that they would start at the Start area an simply proceed south down either the skate or classic trails. They did not do that. What they did instead was to groom some of the old Telemark system that the trail crew cleared this past Summer. Trails that extend behind the Great Hall and back towards the old lodge. So trails that have not been skied in a long time including chunks of the old World Cup trail (think "Elevator Shaft").
Many thanks to Kurt for getting up early on Thanksgiving morning and putting in the time necessary to give us good holiday skiing. Another day for the trail to set up and a little more grooming and the skiing at the Start Area will be fantastic.

We got some snow overnight and it's still coming down and blowing hard. We will spend some time clearing downed trees and debris from the trail this morning and will update on grooming plans later today or tonight. The 1K snowmaking loop has not been groomed since the new snow started falling.

Good skiing can be found at the start area of the Birkie Trail at Cable. The man-made snow offers good control and coverage. The Spooner ski team was out as well today -- lots of happy skiers!

Birkie Trailhead appeared to have been groomed last night while still quite warm. Trails froze up overnight and were very hard this morning. Classic tracks were nice but filled with leaves. Skins and no wax skis worked well but wax able skis might have been a problem.
