Notes

The famous Birkie trail. A great, rolling trail through the woods between Cable and Hayward. There is a short section south at Hwy OO that is lighted. There are snowmaking trails at the Start area.

The bonus of a still upcoming ABSF event, the Fat Bike Birkie, trails still getting smashed with the big machines (especially North of OO). Simply amazing skiing out the start trail head! Thanks ABSF groomers!

From Hatchery to the start, the whole map is green. We groomed from OO to the start today as well as the OO loops, BTH loops and Birkie Ridge connector. It’s going to be a warm weekend!

Skated Mosquito Brook to Highway 77 and back, beautiful white corduroy as far as the eye can ski, no oak leaves, etc. This base isn't going anywhere soon. Makes for skating uphills fast, even faster than the new E-Ski is selling off the shelves!

I skated south from Hwy OO. The trail had been recently groomed and there were only about 5 skiers tracks ahead of mine. Conditions were excellent, you bet. There was a recently groomed classic track on one side and an older one on the other side, both were in great condition.

The loops at the American Birkebeiner Trailhead were groomed today and are in great shape! We did one pass with one set of tracks from OO to Hatchery as well.

The 46th Slumberland American Birkebeiner is officially over and it was one for the books. The loops at the Birkie Start are groomed and the tracks at the Easy Strider loops at OO were reset this morning. We’ll be working to clean up the trail as soon as we can. It is another 45 degree day here in Birkieland!

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails: Closed, Good skis ]
The Birkie Trail is officially closed until after Birkie Week events are over. You may ski at Birkie Ridge, to the point that it connects to the Birkie Trail, through Thursday. There are also a number of area ski trails you can check out. Thank you in advance for respecting the trail closure and allowing our grooming crew to properly prepare race courses for multiple events - from the Barnebirkie to the SuperTour sprints to the American Birkebeiner and every event in between.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I skated south from the OO trailhead. The skate deck was in good condition, despite having had a fair bit of weekend traffic. The classic tracks were excellent except for a few leaves, you bet. I saw a notice that the Birkie managers intend to close the course at midnight tonight through Thursday so they can prepare for the races on Friday and Saturday.

Observation
Drove down mosquito brook road and saw that trail is groomed and tracked north and south. At fish hatchery the groomer just went thru and across 77 heading to the lake. Conditions may be soft until it sets up.
