2021-2022 season

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Just finished a sunset ski at Hoffman for the first time after grooming it on Wednesday. Much better than I had anticipated with a firm base and great edges. Not as many dirty spots as I had reported earlier and all easy to avoid. I had the whole place to myself, a quiet ski with peaks of sunset and a rising crescent moon. Skied most of the lower trails until it became hard to see! I did use my best skis but selected B skis for skiers who might be concerned about damage.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Groomed the entire skate deck and set new track on about half the trails. Avoid both Squirrel Tales (North is slightly better than South) and for sure Roller Coaster. Hawk Ridge turned out good but the big hill to get to the upper trails is dirt and debris laden. The lower trails are about 85% great, 10% so so and 5% not so good. The reset classic tracks are shallow and some dirty spots, both in tracks and in skate lane that are very avoidable if paying attention. I'm planning to use my best skis and stick to the lower trails.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Classic track still holding up well this morning but needles and leaves starting to fill in. My wax did a good job of collecting some of the debris and by the time I finished, it was about half wax/half debris. Consider waxless options if you go. Skate deck looked great and there's still plenty of coverage.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Bill and I groomed and tracked all trails this morning. The base is rock hard and the fluffy three plus inches we received over the last few days worked up well to produce some great corduroy and a deep classic track. Squirrel tails and hawk ridge are now in good shape with only a few spots with leaves and almost no dirt. It would be a great time to get out and ski Hoffman on Friday during the day and then do the candlelight ski on the Red Cedar in the evening!

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Tilled, groomed and tracked all trails this afternoon. Upper tower trails still sketchy, especially squirrel tales. All other trails in surprisingly good shape with some debris here and there and a few dirty spots. Waiting until after the thaw to groom the couple inches of fresh snow was the right decision. I was able to groom out the few foot tracks that I encountered. My advice is to take both B and good skis starting with the B skis and then decide if you feel comfortable with the good skis. B skis for the tower trails for sure.

1-2" new snow. Great refresh of the base. Not groomed but conditions quite good on much of the system (did not ski Hawk Ridge, Squirrel, or Buck Ridge). A few cars in the lot from a few folks enjoying winter when we left!

Skate deck held up well through Wednesday's warmup. Lower trails skied great. I'd avoid Squirrel (N&S) until we get more snow. The windstorm and the warm up have contributed to significant debris. Did not ski Buck Ridge. Logging Rd, Pines (U/L) and Spring Run all in great shape. Hope they hold up through today's warmup.

The trails groomed up nice after this weeks snowfall! A lot of debris have been picked up and buried on the ridge top trails. Some debris remain on the tower and squirrel tail loops but very skiable. All the valley trails are in excellent shape.

Grooming

Hoffman was rolled, groomed and tracked this morning. I was able to bury most of the debris from the December wind storm that remained on buck ridge and both squirrel tails. They turned out ok but all the other trails are much better. Enjoy!

Lower trails skied firm and fast (Pines and Logging Road). Nice skate deck with only a few thin patches. Lots of debris on upper trails.
