It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, Nordicly speaking. The spring skiing is spectacular. Doing well, with a dirty, icy patch here and there. They have a grooming plan through the coming weekend and the weather outlook is favorable to maintain the generally 12+ base. The chalet is closed to scatter folks over the trails. The ski shop remains open for ... five skiers at a time. There is a donation box to offset the $200 per hour Piston Bully tab. Enjoy the spring potholes as you navigate the entrance to skiing heaven. It’ll be bike season before you know it, but not here, not now.

Excellent conditions at Winter Park this weekend for both skating and classical. Fir, fun and fast! The only trails not groomed were River Run, Vo2 Max, Nutcracker and the Fire Tower. Lake Marie, Wolf Tracks, C and D and Island Hop were outstanding. Lots of snow up north. If you are off, get up there and enjoy!

Excellent skiing in Minocqua. Perfect grooming. Skating and classic were both great. Super fast spring skiing. Practice to social distancing on the trails!

Three hours of classic today w/wax and Tom Z used his skins....almost the same results with fast tracks and 99% perfect grooming. Tracks were deep, solid, and a few icy spots. We skied places we haven't been to in a long while and were glad we went there. I cheated and strided on the skate deck occasionally and it was like rockets. Hope there is more snow coming.

Trails with the exception of Lake Marie and some of the more difficult trails like VO2Max and Nut cracker are freshly groomed and in great shape. Skate deck was very firm, but not icy, classic track were icy in spots but looked ok. Kudos to the groomers for an excellent job!

I skied for almost three hours this morning and skated almost all the trails the grooming crew hit! Two power tiller machines went out last night and produced some fantastic corduroy and the majority of the classic tracks were deep and solid. Wolf Tracks was my favorite trail of the day. I think I did it in record time with how fast the decks were skiing! It felt like a quality mid-winter skate. Conditions like this don’t happen very often this late in the season. Groomers are headed out again tonight!

Very pleased with the good skating conditions today. Didn't expect the expert rated Nutcracker and Squirrels tail to be freshly groomed, but they were. No ice to be concerned about. I would personally never ski them in icy conditions. Sunny day was very enjoyable for the Island hop trail as well.

All trails are open, with plenty of snow, but only "core" trails are being groomed. The rest are really icy, softening somewhat only in the late afternoon. Skied Nepco, Island "Hoppet", X-C Express, Yukon, Nekoosa and some connecting trails. All listed here groomed the night before. Initially all were fine with a great glide. Around noon they become progressively softer and slushier in spots, as expected. Fast sections continued in the shade, with a rapid glide drops in sunny spots.
The "groomsman" said that the same trails would be re-groomed on Thursday and Friday nights. The River Run may be also groomed on Friday night, but not for sure.

The sweet siren call of spring skiing is in the air. And Looking for that sweet spot for classic, between 28-31F, well tilled and aged track, I blew it by talking in the chalet a bit too long. Nevertheless, a mighty fine day, sun angle and all. Did a fair amount of double pole and definitely could have won my age group at the Vasa with these conditions. The groomers seem to reasonably do another 5,10,15 k per night as the going is slow with a freeze/thaw cycle upon us. As always, “Follow the groomer” seems like good advice. The skating looked enticing and that may be tomorrow’s choice. Either way, still a deep base to work with and plenty of skiing ahead.

Very good skiing on today's groomed skate trails. The ones not groomed lately are fair to good depending on how soft they have become. Tracks look mostly solid. I didn't notice if they were icy. Beautiful sunny, blue sky day! School kids having a blast tubing.
