[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
You are never disappointed skiing at SMF. A big thank you to the die hard grooming crew out there as I was greeted with fresh grooming on all the inner trails this AM (the purple connector and yellow were not newly groomed today though). I used my B skis due to scattered thin/dirty areas but you could definitely use your good skis with caution. I believe they easily have the most consistently well groomed conditions in the Twin Ports and the trails are a joy to ski. It was expectedly brisk out their but Swix Polar worked for nicely for glide. Please get out there and support this great trail system and their dedication to top notch trail maintenance. Season passes are very reasonable. Thank you SMF!

Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
It is a treat to head out to a trail and know for sure it will be freshly groomed or at least have been in the past day or so because they groom daily! We classic skied the Red and Green at the Superior Municipal forest and were treated to firm pole plants throughout, solid firm tracks always a pleasure to ski there! Pass prices were raised this year and worth every single penny.

The skate decks were exceptional on the green and outer purple trails! Skating was very smooth and fast! The decks were firm and the snow conditions were perfect. There aren’t any icy spots or debris on the trails, either. The groomers have done a wonderful job over the past week to get the trails in excellent condition. I also did some double poling in the classic tracks and they were nice and firm. They were fast and didn’t have any debris, either.

At 10AM, red outer loop well compacted and in very good ski condition. Red inner loop a little soft (needs more ski traffic and groomer compaction).

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Good conditions for skate and classic. All trails are now groomed (except for a couple hill bypasses on the yellow). Classic tracks are set on all trails except the hilly (east) side of the yellow trail. Great to have all Superior trails groomed. Yellow trail was particularly fun since it was just opened today. Skate deck a bit soft and choppy here and there, and some of the fresh classic tracks are also soft, as expected. Good coverage throughout, with a bit of tall grass/ earth poking up here and there (no rocks). Full width not quite achieved in all places (yellow trail hills in particular), but really nice overall. Great to be skiing again on these beautiful trails. Nice work by the groomers.

Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I skate skied the trails at the Superior Municipal Forest this afternoon. The groomers did their usual fabulous job grooming for both the classic tracks and skate decks, but the snow was very, very slow and really soft. The temperatures were also too cold for the snow to set up correctly. There was very little glide and my skis would sink in the snow when I tried to push off. The plus, it was a very hard workout. I ran into a larger group of classic skiers and they said the classic tracks were very soft and slow, as well. At least the trails are open and there’s plenty of snow.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
All trails north of 42nd street (red, green, blue, inner purple) are groomed and have fresh track set on them. The outer purple has fresh track but the groomer ran out of time to finish up the skate deck fully on it. Grooming plans: We will have groomers out again tomorrow to continue working on the trails and we will have a groomer out on Sunday as well.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
The forest received a good amount of snow (around 6”) Monday and groomers were able to get out on the trails today. A skate deck has been established on everything north of 42nd street (red, green, blue, inner purple) and some basic passes with somewhat of a skate deck were made on the outer purple trail. No track has been set yet but we hope to get some done in the next 48 hours. There wasn’t much for moisture in this last snow so things are a bit soft still but we hope with cold temps that they set up with additional grooming and time. We will continue to post updates as crews get more ground covered.

Grooming
[ Trails: Closed, Bare ground ]
Crews are out doing initial rolling/packing throughout the system. However, there is not enough snow at this time to officially call them open and the gates will stay closed at this time. We hope that getting this initial 2/3 inches packed down can help build a base but it will really depend on future temps at this time.
