Very good skate lane conditions today after 11 am. Leo's loop was a bit rough, and the two road crossings have sand/snow mix so watch your ski bases. The Piston Bully was out laying track and grooming the skate lanes. The 20 km loop needed some grooming in places and there is steady but light debris on un-groomed patches, but I suspect these will be set and ready for a good weekend of skiing.

Very good skiing. With continued polar vortex weather snow has not transitioned and glide is minimal. The downhill sections are great to run right now, the ski traffic is very light. Deck is stable and flat with some soft areas.

Great ski today at Nine Mile. The tracks were hard and there was great glide with no ice. The skate deck looked great also but you could see there were some soft spots were some skis had sunk a little, saw less than one percent dirt / debris, the snow sounded like styrofoam being so cold but the classic skis were eating it up, cheers.

Beautiful trails this afternoon. Groomers did a great job setting out new tracks and corduroy with Pisten Bully. It was a little soft underneath but it should harden up overnight. Skied the 10k loop which had tracks and deck. Thanks grooming and chalet crew!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Nine Mile received nearly 8" of snow yesterday. Though we were starting with nearly no base, the trails are looking to be in very good condition with a base of about 5". The PistenBully is out and we are laying classic track as well as a good comb on the skate lane. As of 9 am, the lighted loop. Leo's loop and 6k have been completed. The plan is to also lay track on the 10k and 20k today. Grooming will continue through the weekend.

I was on the lighted trails tonight. I was impressed with the trails since snow fall hasn’t been the greatest. A few bare spots but nothing that interfered with me skiing. Bare spots were mostly under some trees. I was able to ski without catching. Thank you.

Conditions at Nine Mile are pretty good. We've been able to put a comb on almost all the trails now. Most have classic tracks as well. The classic tracks are in pretty good shape for the most part. There are still areas where the ground is showing through due to lack of snow. We are doing routine maintenance on the trails daily to keep them in the best condition possible.

The second annual Red Bull Winter Triathlon was held at 9 mile today. Last year I was part of a relay team and really missed not participating this year. Looked like another very successful and well run event. I did get out on the trails and found the 1 1/2 inches of fresh snow we got overnight made for an opportunity to ski on a firm base with powder on-top. Actually prefer to get out before the groomers when there is less than 2” of new snow . Didn’t make it out on the trails until early afternoon but wasn’t disappointed. Light skier traffic once out on the 20 k ( bushwhacker ridge ) and the alps hadn’t even been visited at all. The fresh snow on the firm 2”- 3” of maintained base evened things out and the downhill decent’s were very enjoyable, like backcountry skiing. Great hill work training for this year’s Birkie event.

Considering still not much snow to work with the groomers did an excellent job. There are plenty of spots however where you can see the ground through the snow and occasional gravel. B skis might be OK and you’ll be dodging a lot of dark spots but rocks skis might be a good choice as well. Enjoy.
