French is as good as it gets! The skate track was wide and firm with 1/2" of powder on top that actually slowed the descents which is uncommon out there. Should be great weekend skiing!

An inch of snow since last grooming. Track was well defined and offered great classic skiing. Skate deck was being skied in by skaters and didn't seem to bad on the outer loop were most skiers go. Leaves were pretty much covered with snow.

Today's ski here was perfect, cold deep tracks for classic skiing. Very few leaves. A beautiful day and ski, doesn't get better.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
French Rapids trails were rolled today, but reports are it was rather soft yet. Grooming planned for Monday will use grooming sled and set track which should help firm it up.

Grooming of the skate deck Thursday helped a lot with the chunks and deer tracks. Hard packed old snow, but not icy. Older classic track had residual (now old) powder snow (and leaves) in it. Good coverage for good skis, but some sections have a bunch of oak leaves and a few sticks.

If you like your ski trails tracked up by deer, covered in oak leaves, and with plenty of icy death balls you are in luck, French Rapids has all of that. With that said, the coverage is great. I was on skate skis but the track looked pretty solid though a little covered in leaves. Seriously, if you like bombing down crusty torn up snow with lots of ice balls this is your place. I had fun.

First time out to French found the trails recently groomed in very good condition, good skis. Ok, there were lots of oak leaves on the trail - hard to get away from that.

Trails in great condition but someone should really talk to the deer about walking across it. So rude. Also, these trails are beautiful but exhausting when you are in bad shape like me. Let's just say I go downhill extra fast.

Good deep and firm classic track unfortunately has a bunch of oak leaves in it in many sections, there are some ok areas, but many of the hills are too steep to use the tracks much anyway. Skate lane very good - firm but not hard with plenty of edge grip.

Classic skied the outer loop (after skiing 2 loops at Wolf Lake -- earlier retirement has its benefits). Quite a few oak leaves where oaks are growing. Now I know why I usually skate at French...leaves in tracks without fresh snow and my poor kick was selection.
