Notes

Small park near the end of the Gateway Trail. There is beautiful scenery with trails winding through pine forest, and near small lakes and picturesque farms. The course is quiet, sheltered, and has a lot of fun roling hills. Most of the terrain is intermediate in difficulty.

Once again, this hidden gem of a XC ski trail delivers! Pine Point groomers must've been out this morning or midday, as the skate deck was primed for skiing! Perfect corduroy, snow coverage excellent (obviously some debris in spots, ) but all navigable. Classic tracks in tip top condition too! No one was out there around 1:30pm this afternoon. Big thanks to the groomers for keeping these trails well-groomed and cared for, for us skiers.

A perfect choice for a cold windy day. Although we've biked through Pine Point many times, and I've been trail running there once, it was our first time skiing it. I found the pines even more beautiful on a sunny crisp winter day than in summer. Green, blue, white, and black were the colors there today. Oh, and the snow was great too! The classic tracks were deep and solid and the skate deck looked smooth and firm too. When we got there at 3 pm it still didn't look like many people had skated since it had been groomed.

All trails freshly groomed, nice soft new snow. Classic tracks set on most trails but there were a few sections missing tracks. Some oak leaves already but overall nice conditions at Pine Point today. Some occasional sticks, cones, snow/dirt mix but could use good skis if careful.

It was such a fun morning skiing at Pine Point Park. With the dusting of snow last night, it appeared the firm skate deck provided enough edging for a sure push off. The classic tracks were very firm and well set under the fluffy white stuff. Skins, green hard wax and whatever was on my vintage Skilom woodies worked great, as long as you maneuvered around the fallen chunks of bark, some leaf debris and small pine cones. I love natural snow skiing. Thanks groomers!

Conditions were mostly very good for skating. Staff did a good job of creating an approachable and a very edge worthy skate deck. The only difficulty occurred on the short up hill portion under the spruce trees on the pond trail west of the parking lot and north of the Gateway trail. The classic tracks were solid, but gripable, with short sections of leaves in the usual spots. A nice hour plus ski. All the parking lot skier tailgaters I encountered were smiling and happy with their time on the trails. Cold northwest winds were mostly a non-issue at this heavily tree protected system.

I was fortunate to be the first to ski the freshly groomed tracks this morning. While the classic tracks were thin in a few spots on the south loop, the conditions were exceptional. No debris and clean grooming. I love Washington Cty Parks. Go east side!
