Best ski of the year. Skied very nearly everything. Groomers were out early this morning, so we were often among the first (if not the first) people after fresh corduroy was put down. Started very early and it was fun and wicked fast. By around 10 it had already warmed considerably and was getting soft and slow. Get out there in the morning, afternoon skiing will be far less fun both for you and for anyone trying to ski the next morning!

Late Spring conditions. Lots of snow, but surface is dirty and water laden. Need to be very careful when planting the outside pole or it will go down up to two feet. We skied from Britton Peak Parking to the Picnic Loop and back, but it was pretty hard work. Skin skis provided excellent kick and glide for the conditions. Scenery on this trail is the best in MN.

Late morning / early afternoon skied Britton Peak, looped around Homestead loop and over to Onion River trailhead. Somewhat glazed to start but ended with lovely spring sugar snow. Still a ton of snow out there!

As promised, Sugarbush groomed their entire system overnight last night. I skied the connector trail from Tofte to Britton Peak trailhead, then clockwise on the Picnic Loop. Sun was strong but tracks were in good shape, occasionally glazed. Red Special for kick. Broke a pole grip halfway through my ski, a minor inconvenience on a beautiful day.

Took a road trip up to Tofte for my final ski of the year. So enjoyable to ski the Sugarbush trails. They were freshly groomed and in great shape. Lots of snow left in the woods! Parking lot was full, although didn't see many skiers on the trail. I skied all the trails from Oberg to Moose Fence to Britton Peak. They should have some great skiing for a while yet.

I skated the Picnic loop today. Lots of snow drifting onto the trail along the expert section though the downhills were still fun and I never bogged down in the snow- it just slowed things down a bit.

There was a light dusting of snow this morning that was enough to cover up any ice and smooth out any ruts, but not so much as to be an inconvenience. Someone also kindly moved the small tree that was down on the Oberg loop. Really excellent skiing. I skated, but I would think the fresh snow would be enough to tame the classic tracks, if they were getting squirrelly.

Classic skiing was a bit icy and fast. Well groomed trails with a slight dusting of snow when we arrived at 11ish am. Started out with decent kick but after an hour, with beautiful sun, the dusting crystalized. We lost the kick which made the hills very fast down and very tough getting up. A super workout but a bit scarry and exasperating on the hills. I would think it would be great conditions for skaters.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Excellent pristine conditions on all trails at Sugarbush with a firm clean skate deck and deep rails and no ice. Snow so deep in woods that planting a pole off the side of the trail will lead it to plunge to the strap handle. Weather consistent so snow not melting. Trails not crowded, days long, temps in 20-30s, as good as it gets.
